Sex after C-section how long do you have to wait

This may seem like a strange question but I am almost 3 weeks post emergency c-section and have recovered really well. Just wondering if anybody knows how long I will have to wait until you can have sex. Surely it isn't until after my 6 week doctors appointment - I'll go mad by then.

I know how you feel chuffed, although I didn't have a c-section. I think I was about 3 weeks (if that!) after DS2 The doctor I saw thought I was pretty insane, but prescibed me the pill anyway.

I couldn't honestly say if it would be ok or not as I don't want to say yeah go for it (although very gently) and then something bad happens with your wound. How about phoning NHS direct or the midwives just to see what they say?

You are meant to wait for 6 weeks post section. I found this out after I'd already done it (quite succesfully) only 11 days post section

Any ideas why you have to wait 6 weeks post section if your scar has healed and you feel well?

Udar........you randy old thing............

Another one for 3 weeks here. Never mentioned at either of my 6 week checks (mind you, my GP does them at 8 weeks, so no chance waiting that long )

I thought that one of the biggests perks of a c/section was that you were usually able to go for it sooner. I would go carefully - I think we were fairly unimaginative position-wise...

Not had experience of a c-section, but isn't it about waiting until the lochia has finished? So that the 'internal' wound left by the placenta has healed?

BTW lucky you It took me aaaaages to feel anything like that

You can have sex wgen you feel like it - no need to wait 6 weeks. Just remember though that once you start, you have no other excuse left wehen you don't feel like it. I resumed after 2 weeks with number 2 baby. Didn't make that make that mistake again

And that wasn't a C section

Udar/chuffed

glad to hear you are not too low or physically incapacitated after the childbirth experience!

we resumed sex at 3 weeks post-birth, after vaginal delivery. no problems. at my 6 weeks check they don't physically check anything just ask questions (things aiming to pick up post-natal depression etc). I also went swimming both times at 3 weeks post natal, a friend went diving 4 weeks after her c section. I'd say if you feel up to it it's probably ok.

Had c section for DD and DS. Did 2wks and 3wks respectively. No pain from scar just felt a little tender and closed if you see what I mean. Was told by friend that breastfeeding prolongs the oestrogen and can make things awkward re: penetration. Husband happy though!!

I never got told to wait for 6 weeks after my c-section. I think we started at about 4 weeks whcihc was around the same time the lochia stopped but that was just co-incidence

jac34 · 25/04/2004 18:32

I remember my midwife telling me I could resume sex much earlier after my c section. Didn't however, as I was still bleeding until after my 6 week check, but certainly felt like it.
