Honestly - what was your tummy like after delivery?

I used to have a flat tum, it was probably my only good feature. I miss it already as my stomach swells up with this lovely baby. Will I ever get it back? Please tell me what to expect in the hours, days and weeks following delivery. I know it's not that important in the grand scheme of things, but I'd like to be forewarned Confused

Yeah - babies fuck your tummy shocker...

I had a C-section 4 years ago & it has wrecked my tummy. It was flat before, but unfortunately I have been left with a saggy overhang/apron, despite getting back to my pre baby weight & doing no end of exercises! Thankfully I didn't get many stretch marks but tbh these would be preferable to the overhang. Am now 35 weeks pg with dc#2 so we'll see what state it is in once she arrives! Hmm

Cariad007 · 04/11/2014 12:09

Mine was a bit soft but deflated almost immediately and two weeks later was flatter than it was before I got pregnant and I was back in my skinny jeans. No stretch marks either and eight months later I've dropped two jeans sizes purely from having a ravenous baby I reckon. So it isn't always bad OP!

It was wobbly like jelly it'd wave like the sea if I coughed lying down. Now its much better. I have a flat stomach after losing weight and it's gone back to being fairly toned which it hasn't been for years. It has taken hard work though. Still got a pouch bit but that will never go unless I have surgery but you can't see it in clothes and it doesn't bother dh so it doesn't matter to me.

Rubberstamp · 04/11/2014 12:19

It completely depends on you and I'm not sure you can tell which was it will go beforehand. I got bad stretch marks during puberty (thighs/breasts etc) and had assumed that the same would be the case with pregnancy. But both times, I've had no stretch marks and after my first, my stomach was almost completely flat (but squishy if you poked it) a week after birth and my youngest is now 9 months and again no stretch marks but this time a little more squishiness. Was back to normal jeans a couple of weeks afterwards. Most people who see my belly (I do a lot of sport so lots of people see it when changing) can't believe I've ever had children. It's just luck. I have fellow team members who are slimmer and fitter than me who have big wobbly tummies (their words) years after having their children.

mumxof3x · 05/11/2014 13:53

Immediately after birth empty and kinda of squishy, almost back to normal on discharge from hospital. Ive had 3 children now and its not really any different lookwise to what it was prebabys it was always slim and flat. But I can tell a difference at the feel of my own skin but no one else can, no stretchmarks either. Now having no4 so I maybe eating my words come next year lol.

I'm exactly 5 weeks after first birth. stomach went down quite quickly am back in pre pregnancy clothes but it is still wobbly gonna wait another week or so and do gentle ab exercises

I had twins and have stretch marks on my stretch marks, and in my belly button too. It looked awful to start with. I heard a doctor on the radio saying that after 1 year, that was as good as it would get Shock

I took up ballet and pilates, eight years later, and it has never stopped getting better. Grin Soon it will look better than the rest of me Wink

36 yrs and had my baby 11 weeks ago. Also had a fit flat tummy. I just kind of deflated afterwards! Was in my larger normal jeans within about 3 weeks and now I just have a couple of really skinny pairs that don't fit but other than that I'm back in size 10 and tummy looks ok. I need to do some exercise, at the moment I'm just walking, but once I start properly working on it I'm sure it'll look like it did before. Surprised at how ok I look post pregnancy but I stayed pretty fit during it and kept weight gain to 2.5 stone. Breastfeeding helps the deflation too!

Blondiemama · 13/11/2014 02:04

Back to normal after about 3 months, no stretch marks. The trick- religious moisturising, Bfeeding of hungry baby and walking the dog every day! I'm actually smaller now 6 months pp than I was before I conceived!

tobysmum77 · 14/11/2014 21:15

My tummy isn't absolutely what it was but in clothes it looks the same. Flat stomach is body type really so my body type is basically the same.

I was wearing bigger than normal jeans after 2 weeks and I remember people saying is that your baby? The biggest thing for me was being pregnant made me pile on a good couple of stone each time so it was a journey to get back.

I still don't work out other people are Angry Confused generally. ...

tobysmum77 · 14/11/2014 21:16

Oh and to redress the balance in my case it isnt down to breastfeeding

ImBrian · 16/11/2014 09:39

After the first 3 it went completely flat again with no skin changes though it took slightly longer each time. Number 4 it didn't go quite as flat but I kept a stone on. The skin went slightly wrinkly as well. I had dc5 yesterday and it's shrunk surprisingly quickly but I'm guessing it won't go as flat/be as tinkle free as before.

Eminybob · 16/11/2014 09:55

I'm so jealous of all these post baby flat tums!

I looked as pregnant walking out of the hospital as I did going in!

4 months later and although I ebf its still pretty big. I did put on a lot of weight during pregnancy though and have made zero effort to try and lose it.
