Big first baby; how big was your DC2?

Ds was 9lb 7oz and born by elcs due to transverse presentation so no option for natural birth.
I'm now 37.5 weeks with DD and all is currently looking good for vbac.
But... I'm concerned about her size having heard some big baby horror stories. So if your first was a whopper, how did your second measure up?!

DS1 9lb 2oz (41+6)
DS2 7lb 10oz (39+4)

I too had been worried that DS2 would be massive, esp as my younger DB was exactly a pound heavier than me. Now fairly sure that DS1 was just a bit chunky as a result of being overdue. By fluke, I got DS2 weighed on what would have been 41+6 and he was 9lb 2oz!!! Seems I grow babies at a consistent rate whether during pg or when bf Grin.

Good luck Smile

Thanks everyone - some reassuring stuff!!! I'm looking forward to experiencing a natural birth this time. My mum had 2 really big babies so if he she can do it.... And she's dinky too! :) x

My DS was nearly 9 pounds. Second baby DD 8lb 6.

Hopefully this should reassure you a bit more:

  1. 9lb 11oz emcs
  2. 7lb 3 oz vbac
omri · 29/10/2014 22:21

Ds- 8lbs at 41 weeks
Dd-11lbs at 41weeks

My 11 pounder my darling girl was short labour (2 hrs start to finish) but v intense pain - but no tears or stitches or grazes - don't worry I don't think it's the actual weight that counts. Best of luck and congratsSmile

I agree, My daughter was the easiest to come out and she was the biggest at 10lbs 2. My first birth was the hardest and the sorest. After that, the way was paved.

Teatimecakes · 30/10/2014 18:22

Thank you - this is very encouraging to hear x

9lb 4oz 40+11

10lb 6oz 40+3

Both EMCS. I knew the 2nd one was bigger. Plus I has 8 growth scans along the way.

mumxof3x · 31/10/2014 13:39

Mine started off small, went biggish then back smaller lol.

Ds1 42wks 6ib 11
Ds2 40 wks 9ib
Ds3 38wks 6ib 13

BendyMum15 · 31/10/2014 20:02

My first was 10lb at a week late (although actually went into labour when he was only 4 days late)
Second was induced at 38 weeks due to gestational diabetes and she was 7lb 4oz.
First labour was long due to DS's head not pressing on cervix properly. Second was easy - a grand total of 40 mins (and only 4 hours from being given the pessary) -could hardly believe she was born to be honest and she seemed tiny compared to DS.

ilovelamp82 · 31/10/2014 20:04

DS1 10lb 15oz 2 weeks late
DS2 9lb 5oz 1 week early.

Teatimecakes · 31/10/2014 20:14

Thanks again! So reassuring x

Interesting thread Smile

My DD was 9lb 8.5oz and was a relatively easy birth with no pain relief and a 'graze' rather than a tear of any sort. I'm pregnant again - boy this time and had a scan last Thursday at 35+6 where he was already measuring just under 8lb! Got another scan in 2 weeks to check size again.

I think it has more to do with the position of the baby than the weight whether you have an 'easy' labour or not. Head circumference is obviously also an issue as once that's out the rest just follows!

Teatimecakes · 02/11/2014 13:15

This is all very helpful - thanks ladies. Love mumsnet :-) midwife Is great but always evades question about her size, think it's her was of not making a big deal of what can't be changed or controlled. She'll be what she'll be!!
Midwife said the same about position of the baby too. Saying she's delivered many larger babies in good positions with no issues or significant damage to the mother. Whereas, a tiny one in an awkward pose can cause loads of problems! At the moment DD is in perfect position so fingers crossed she stays that way and gets a wriggle on soon!! X

DS1 9lb 9oz
DD 6lb 13½oz
DS2 6lb 13½oz!

Teatimecakes · 05/11/2014 17:21

Wow! What a difference! And what a coincidence to have the exact same weight!

1st EMCS, 9 days late, just under 8 lb.

2nd VBAC a week early and just over 7 lb.

3 rd...I'll tell you next summer. :)

Stripylikeatiger · 07/11/2014 18:16

1st 10 pounds
2nd 11 pounds.

The 2nd birth was easier and I had fewer stitches.

Big babies are so lovely :)

Number3cometome · 10/11/2014 13:44
