Is childbirth like doing a poo in public???

My first baby is due in December and I am now utterly convinced that childbirth is like doing a poo / having a dump in public. Is this true??? Not being used to doing this sort of thing with an audience, could throw my style off a bit. Is this the case and do you have any advice???

I can also highly recommend gas and air for doing away with any last inhibitions you may have

I am with everyone else Baretoes - if you do pooh you really dont care, it;s one less bit of pressure. In fact I was being told to stop pushing but I was desperate to pooh so culd'nt I went past the point of no return.
have only discussed it once with DH who kindly told me 'yes you did'

Ah yes, I poo-ed seceral times in the waterpool and down the toilet. even had my bum wiped by the MW (oh I had a homebirth and the MW had a fishing net to scoop out the poo!). Couldn't have cared less tho

Never remembered the pushing feeling like needing the toilet... felt the pushing sensation in my throat strangely enough... more a mental than physical thing... bizarre!?

Shit

I have another 7 months of anticipation to look forward to this ........pain, vomitting, gross indignity, chocolate starfish and fanjo on display to the world

What was I thinking, must have been insane, want to go back to how it was before .....

Loshad · 11/10/2006 10:21

chocolate star fish , referring to a bum hole being on display rather then swimming with you own number 2's i think , well i was anyway

to me it felt exactly like doing a HUGE poo. in fact i nearly had my ds on the toilet cause i thought i just had to poo. (which i did but he was coming too!)
during the actually pushing bit i was trying to quietly suggest that i would be punching a deuce. "i'm going to p....I'm going to p..." midwife and DH are saying "you're going to puke? here's something to be sick in..." eventually i had to yell "I'M GOING TO POO!" very loudly so they got the message.
DH loves telling that story.

Bloss. I guess poo can be scooped up out of water but vomit can't !

babychip · 11/10/2006 15:57

1 of the main things i remember about being in labour is the mwife saying 'come on now push' i was answering 'i dont need to push i need i big poo!' she replied 'if you need to poo just do it!!' although i didnt actually go im guessing that they just clean it up and carry on with what they have to do

squally · 11/10/2006 16:12

have no idea whether i did a poo or not as i had an epidural and couldn't feel a thing. However, clearly remember being told by the midwife that the anaesthetist was coming in to top up my epidural and would I like to put my t-shirt back on to save HIS embarrassment!!!
I agree that at that point i wouldn't have cared if they'd have wheeled me into the carpark starkers.

Tillyboo · 18/10/2006 22:46

Had a little poo in birthing pool, saw it float past me (whilst on hands and knees)
Remember saying 'Oh god, is that me?'
Well, who else was it going to be from ?

Piffle · 18/10/2006 22:47

No
I can hold a poo in until I get home. Babies nope.
Could quite frankly have had my babies in front of a theatre audience - awareness = zilch, mind elsewhere entirely.
So no not at all - inhibitions are pointless

Sophiev73 · 18/10/2006 22:54

I went to do a poo in labour and the MW came with me 'just in case' - of all the dignity-losing experiences I found her watching me wiping my bum was worse than the rest for some reason! But hey who gives a FF when there's that scrummy-smelling head to sniff...
