How long did you wait after childbirth (episiotomy and tear) before you had sex?

7 weeks ago I had a pretty rough birth. 44 hours, 4 hours of pushing followed by a cut ready for forceps and then the Dr disappeared for an emergency so I carried on pushing and had a 3rd degree tear behind the episiotomy.
Last week my DH and I attempted to have sex and I felt like my skin was burning and going to rip apart. Obviously we stopped.
None of my friends or family have had a cut or a tear (Lucky buggers!) so I have no one to ask.
So I'd really like to know how long until you could have sex again?
Thanks! Blush

plummyjam same thing happened to me after emcs. GP checked me out, she said to th body thought it had gone through labour so tightened up. Took a few months but wasnt too uncomfortable.

^should say, the tear wasn't nearly as bad as yours.

Hi mrsgrumble - I think it's assumed everything should be fine after a section but I'm not sure that's necessarily everyone's experience.

I wonder if regardless of tears etc our bodies are physiologically designed to delay resuming sex until a time when it's appropriate to get pregnant again - ie when our baby is a more self sufficient toddler.

Although sex became more enjoyable at about 9 months, my proper libido didn't return until about 15 months.

6 weeks after episiotomy and forceps, took it show and it was fine.

Had to go back two years later though for restitching as hadn't been finished off quite right.

first time, massive episiotomy and tear and waited 6 weeks. Second time had 2nd degree tear and waited 6 weeks.
First time hurt but then was ok x
