So if my first labour was about 17hours from show with quite a long time on epidural which slowed things down, waters had to be broken etc.

And then my second labour was 4 hours from waters breaking to birth

How long will my third labour be?!! Anyone care to share their timings/hazard a guess?

Trying to decide how far is too far to drive to hospital (in time for pain relief!)

I've only got 1 (4hrs, sent home 2 hours in, got back just in time).

I am a 3rd baby though. Mum reckoned 20 mins. Delivered by my dad in his gardening trousers with my 5yo sister assisting!

Don't be scared, but be prepared!

One wasn't as fast as these from being in established labour mine were
Dc1 9 hours
Dc2 1 3/4 hours
Dc3 induced due to waters breaking and no labour 10 hours
Dc4 7 hours
I want to know what number 5 is like!

Poppa, just don't let them send you home if it's that far. They always try ??
I dilated so quickly within the hour this time. They sent me home as I said and I had to go back which just got me all stressed out. I almost gave birth in the waiting area of a and e while h parked the car, then he raced me up to the ward in a wheelchair and pretty much came straight away.
If they do send you out then I would stay near the hospital. X

I'd have had plenty of time to get there!!

From first contractions to actual birth:

1st labour: 42 hours
2nd labour: 18 hours
3rd labour: 22 hours.

I'm pinning all my hopes for a faster labour on no 4!!

Dc1 19 hours from first inkling to delivery.

Dc2 2 hrs from first inkling to delivery

Dc3 4 hrs...

mammaof4girls · 19/07/2014 18:16

from 1st contraction to baby being born:
dd1 - induction 4 hours
dd2 - 9 hours
dd3 - 4 hours
dd4 - 2 hours
dd5 - 45 minutesShock
mine all pretty much halved with dd1 being the exception as I was induced so my labour probably would of been longer in different circumstances!

livingthegoodlife · 22/07/2014 21:54

first - about 6 hours

second - gentle irregular contractions, hospital on telephone put me off and then sent someone to check on me at home to see if i was ready to come in - i was 10cm!! lol baby was unplanned homebirth!

expecting third! planned homebirth this time.

I'm wondering the same thing, first was 4 hours total, second less than an hour, 12 minutes of 'active' labour apparently, so bit worried about no 3 (34 weeks now). I'm 40 mins away and think I'm just going to head straight there at the first sign.

I was also told by myconsultantthat if I'm at home without DH, don't wait for someone to take me, call an ambulance and say you have a history of v fast deliveryandtheywill take you in - much better than only having my kids to help or giving birth in the back of a car! (Neighbours will be looking after the kids in cases you were wondering)

My first two from first twinge to baby was 24 hours but established labour was 9 hours with the first and then just under 2 hours with the second.

Dc3 was totally different, waters broke on night with no contractions, started being induced 24 hours later and then had a ventouse after being in labour about 8 hours.

If I hadn't insisted on a epidural due to being induced I think she would have been born quicker, wasn't checked very often ds could have been 10 cm for ages and then was so numb I couldn't push!

RelocatorRelocator · 23/07/2014 08:41

From first contraction mine were:

5hrs 30
1hr 50
3hrs 30

Brittsche · 23/07/2014 15:53

I had my third in April and was also a bit worried about how quick the baby might come. What no-one told me before, but everyone since is that with third babies you often get false alarms!! My first light contractions started on a Wednesday evening which carried on and carried on, and baby was born in the early hours of Saturday. Apparently, this is quite common with third babies - ask your midwife! At the end, the birth was an hour.

dinkystinky · 23/07/2014 15:56

about 3 hours all in from first contraction to baby in arms - would have been faster if not for journey to birth centre when I was holding bubs in

DS2 was 3.5 hours from first contraction hitting (waters went at 5, contractions kicked in an hour later)

DS1 8 hours (but induced)

Tournesol · 23/07/2014 15:59

Ds1 12 hours
DS2 14 hours
Dd 45 minutes

From waters breaking to giving birth very fast, no time for anyone but DH to catch her! Ruined my carpet too.
