I know it's more likely that you will go into labour at night as it is dark etc but has anyone out there hint into labour during the day?

absolutely true for me. Water's broke at about 9pm, had a few contractions overnight. They stopped in the morning and the midwives started talking about drips etc. Then contractions started up again in the evening of their own accord when everyone left me in peace, the screaming woman in the next bed was taken away, and they finally turned the fluorescent spotlights off, DD born 4am.

For me I think it was about feeling relaxed and safe.

DC1 - woke up at 3am bleeding and waters went at 10pm the next evening
DC2 - contractions started at 10.30

I was woken in the night for a couple of nights with period-type pains. But contractions actually started at noon, while I was waiting at the hospital for my second sweep. Very light tingly sensation at first, didn't get really painful until about 5.30pm.

Come to think of it yes both started in the early hours around 3-4ish

ThinkIveBeenHacked · 13/07/2014 21:47

4am Sunday start. 4am Monday delivery.

Ive heard its an evolutionary issue - that back in the old ages, woman was more likely to be surrounded by people in the night that in the day - when all the menfolk are off hunting.

LJBanana · 13/07/2014 21:48

Yep all 3 started at night, 2 arriving between 8 am and 9am, one arriving early hours.

duchesse · 13/07/2014 21:50

Waters broke as first sign with all four. This happened at 8pm, 8am, 4pm and 5am respectively. So not really, no.

MrsBungle · 13/07/2014 21:51

Dc1 I went into labour at 11pm had her 52.5 hours later

Dc2 I went into labour at 3pm.

duchesse · 13/07/2014 21:52

Babies actually arrived: 2:10 pm 3 days later, 11 am the next day, 11:30 pm the same evening, and 2am four days later (but no knowing what day or time she would have arrived had she not been stuck).

Ds1 induced, ds 2 contractions started 10.30/11pm, born 3.30am. I was really hoping it would happen overnight as dh has quite a long commute and childcare for ds1 was easier at night!

FloweryBoots · 15/07/2014 20:22

1st started middle of evening, went to hospital about 11.30pm, laboured all night and born 9.55am.

2nd labour started about 1.30pm and DD born 3.40pm. Was awsome not having to labour all through the night, I was so much less echausted (also, faster labour and 5 mins pushing instead of 4 hours probably helped with that somewhat).

bakingtins · 15/07/2014 20:23

All three times started at between 11pm and midnight.

Wolfiefan · 15/07/2014 20:24

Both labours started in the afternoon.

theborrower · 15/07/2014 21:22

First time, contractions started 3pm.
Second time, contractions started 1.30am.
Both times contractions started things off (waters hadn't broken) and were clockwork from the word go.
So no, not nighttime for me both times, but my husband was there both times.

jilted · 16/07/2014 00:03

Yes, all three were night time
