Just wondering.
My mother was in labour for 97 and a half hours with me (as she is quick to remind me ) but with my 1st DS the whole thing was over in 15 minuets and my 2nd DS i got to the hospital at 8.30am and he was born at 8.49am

I went in to be induced and was told I was already 4 cms so sent straight to labour ward. DD arrived 7 hours later.

Midwife has promised that baby no.2 will come in half the time - I am holding her to this and have made her promise to be on call that day so I can have a rant if it does'nt happen.

I actually really like my midwife - had her with DD and was glad to see her again this time! And she;s never lied to me yet - including after looking at my stitches and saying 'oh my when's the next train due'

11 days.
would have gone on forever without the emergancy c-section to finish it off.

DS - 21 hours - YAWN - in hospital
DD - 3 hours - hurray - at home on my sofa!

dd... contractions started friday night, had her mon afternoon... they were irregular til 9pm sun though so 18 hours established labour

ds... woke at 6am with contractions, had him at 11.47 that night, 18 hours as well.

with both of them though i went from 5cm to 10cm in 2 massive contractions right at the end... and i was only pushing for 30 mins with dd and 10 mins with ds

can i point out moms are prone to exageration... have spent my life hearing about how long my mom was in labour for and what a horrible baby i was for not going quicker to find out after having dd that she went into labour in the afternoon and had me at 2am... hardly long for a first!

1st 7 hrs in hospital, arrived at 7pm midwifes said its you re first you have hours to go put me on an antinatal ward. Was told for the next 4 hours your still in early stages at 11pm they checked me to shut me up, (i was in a ward full of other mums) and found i was fully dilated so rushed me to labour ward just in time.
Number 2 - 6 hrs at home much more civilised.
number 3 - 4 hrs at home in a pool in my kitchen wonderful ! had pizza delivered 1 hour later.

lou33 · 07/09/2006 22:51

sleepfinder · 08/09/2006 12:28

14 1/2 hours - on Saturday last, from waters breaking to child being "out". 1 full hour of pushing.

harrisey · 08/09/2006 19:22

dd1 37 hours ventouse delivery
ds 10 hours natural delivery no trouble
dd2 12 hours induced.

docket · 08/09/2006 19:43

ds 7 hours
dd 4.5 hours

USAUKMum · 08/09/2006 19:54

DD - 8 hrs
DS - 4 hrs (at 20 wks)
DS2 - 1.5 hrs (induced at 38 wks)

No more for me, as at that rate next one would be about 30 min and live 45 min from hospital!

FillyjonktheFluffy]Glad you posted too...because I started to believe I was the only one that had children go longer/more awkward the more I had, lol!

Xavielli · 08/09/2006 20:56

my first was 4 hrs and my second was 2 hrs 30 mins but i didn't have any pain relief which i believe can help you to have a quicker delivery as theres no drugs to cloud your mind!!!

JoolsToo · 19/09/2006 23:01

curlew · 19/09/2006 23:22

Wow - I thought I was doing well with ds - in the bath at 6.30am - Mmm - maybe need to go to hospital at 8.45. Drop off dd and arrive at hospital at 9.30 - ds arrived at 9.47 - weighing 10lb6oz! DP so psyched up for the long haul he went home and did lots of DIY to use up the pent up energy!

chunkyMonkey1 · 26/09/2006 20:42

I went to the hospital with backpain, and got sent home at 1am. i was told to have a hot bath, and the pain may get 'abit' worse. Well i was rushed back there fully dialated all ready pushing, trying to get into the room at the same time. and then there he was! in total i was in labour for about an hour and a half, most of that was because he got stuck

Lizzylou · 26/09/2006 20:52

DS1 started 5pm Friday born 3.50pm on the Sunday, ventouse (spinal right at end as was ventouse or emergency C/S but loved all that gas and air!)
DS2 started 3pm Friday (obviously my day for childbearing) and arrived 10.15am on the saturday, ventouse again but without the spinal, lots of gas and air tho.

Tutter · 26/09/2006 20:54

fast for first baby

not sure when labour started, but got to hosp at 10am, fully dilated by midday. unfortunately mahoosive head meant it took 2 hrs (with the help of scissors) to push him out. so, 4 hrs, but should have eben less.

Miaou · 26/09/2006 20:56

Dd1 - 16 hrs
dd2 - 8 hrs
ds - 4 hrs

The next one will have to be a home birth as I am moving house next week to a place more than 2 hours away from the nearest hospital

Beetle73 · 26/09/2006 20:59

4 1/2 hours from first ache to all over.

franca70 · 26/09/2006 21:13

ds 10 hrs from start to finish. no pain relief (not my choice, I was in Italy, no anesthetist available that day)
dd 6 hrs from start to finish, only the last hour and a half being really painful (gas and air).
