I always read on here how tea and toast was given to them after they had their DC and it was like the food of the gods..

I was really looking forward to it!!

I didn't get it!

About 4 hours later my mum brought me a tuna sandwich (which was amazing anyway Wink)

Then with DD2... I didn't get it again.

Have I sorely missed out and am I the only one??!

Nope, I didn't. On the other hand, it was 3am and I wasn't fully in my right mind. Maybe I just don't remember.

SabrinaMulhollandJjones · 17/01/2014 00:10

Yes -after all 3 of mine. I was offered the choice of 'brown or white?' after dc2 Grin

It should be in the Nice guidelines.

thornrose · 17/01/2014 00:14

Dd was born just after midnight and I had the best tea and toast in the history of my life, ever Grin

I missed breakfast the next morning though as I finally went to sleep at about 4 am after staring at dd all night!

holidaysarenice · 17/01/2014 00:14

My mum and dad had champagne!! In the hospital room. Whilst I lay there watching!

They rock!

TheWomanTheyCallJayne · 17/01/2014 00:16

I did with 1 and 2
3 was a crash section
4 dh went and bought me a sandwich, had a physiological final stage so me didn't want to leave me until I was done

MacaYoniandCheese · 17/01/2014 00:19

Tea and toast after all three and I'm in North America. Must be a universal comfort food Smile. Who doesn't like tea and toast?

Did you know they also bring tea and toast after a termination?

17leftfeet · 17/01/2014 00:20

Nope, and no one told me you had to go down to the day room to get breakfast either so I missed it because I was feeding my baby!

I was so glad to go home

StuckOnARollercoaster · 17/01/2014 00:32

I got tea and toast. Think DP had the toast - I was too knackered after 60 hours to even be hungry!

NotCitrus · 17/01/2014 00:34

No, I was demanding it for an hour, being fobbed off in recovery, then ds went to SCBU and I was told hospital didn't do toast "for health and safety reasons".
Thankfully ds was returned and deemed ok just before dinner arrived, but I had 3 days of bread and jam for breakfast - still no toast.

I offered to buy the ward a new toaster but the MWs said hospital policy was anti-toast...

dylanthedragon · 17/01/2014 00:44

I didn't and I had a c section. But it was mid morning so a couple of hours later I was offered lunch of cottage pie with a side of mash potatoes shortly followed by dinner of pasta with another side of mash. Definitely no shortage of carbs there! Smile

I received a lovely turkey on toast sandwich with birth of ds. DD was born at birthing centre where we supplied our own food. My mum made. Heavenly turkey dinner. Dd2 was born in a US hospital where I chose a veggie omelette, home fries and coffee from room service. All three post birth meals were bliss.

hedgehogy · 17/01/2014 05:30

I had a three course meal less than an hour after my ELCS! It was great, as was the food throughout my hospital stay (which I wasn't expecting). I have heard people say that they couldn't even stomach water after a c-section but I ate it all and was fine.

isisisis · 17/01/2014 05:32

Toast after 9 months of HG was amazing. Quickly followed by ALL the water I had missed out on - good job I had a catheter, i would of been permanently on the loo.

A hospital I used to work at banned toast as the coronary care unit would always be setting the fire alarm off in the middle of the night making it. They needed to clean their crumb draw.

Lamu · 17/01/2014 05:32

I got a cold tea and was told that I'd missed breakfast. I was absolutely ravenous so Dp popped out, got me a couple of hot croissants with strawberry jam and an extra hot chai latte. Grin

DipDabDabDip · 17/01/2014 05:34

Me and DH got toast and jam. I remember it wasn't very nice. We had a bit in the delivery room to get your own hot drinks. DH took advantage of that one!

TheSlug · 17/01/2014 05:38

Yes, both in the delivery room immediately afterwards and back on the postnatal ward too. Best food ever!

annielosthergun · 17/01/2014 05:48

I live abroad and was brought warm water and chicken broth - was gutted!!!

GiraffesAndButterflies · 17/01/2014 05:50

I had a cup of tea and a biscuit. Then I had DH's cup of tea and a biscuit while he had a nap on my bed. 'Twas amazing for us both. Grin

Weirdly I don't remember where DD was during this.

I had some toast but no tea, don't drink the stuff. Tbf I don't really remember the toast very well, I think I made DH eat half of it because he'd not had anything for 12hrs I was feeling guilty that he might be hungry!

wellieboots · 17/01/2014 06:03

No, and I was looking forward to it too!! But DD was born at 1.30 in the morning and by the time the ob got there to do stitches, I had a shower, fed DD etc, it was about 5am and I just wanted to sleep! I think they brought me a can of fizzy.

JeanBodel · 17/01/2014 06:07

No, nothing. But then I didn't get any aftercare at all, frankly.

Emus · 17/01/2014 06:08

Nope, nothing here either until we got onto a ward about five hours later. Haven't thought about it before but now I'm a bit disgusted!

PastaandCheese · 17/01/2014 06:31

I had tea and toast and then when I got to the ward a few hours later they had packed lunches waiting for anyone who came up outside meal times.

There was a sandwich, fruit, juice, crisps and a little chocolate.

I was amazed as had never been in hospital before and always thought it was true that hospital food would be awful. It was really nice but I should say the hospital has a good reputation for its food and the catering staff try very hard.

My sister gave birth in a London hospital and got nothing until her partner went to get her something. Disgusting.
