Hi, I'm 27 weeks pg with ds3 or ds1!.

Both ds's were late - ds1 by 11 days and ds2 by 9 days.

I'm having an elective (ha!) caesarean (sp?) which I hope to book in for 39 weeks, but it has just recently occured to me that it's not a done deal that this one would have been 'naturally' late, like it's big brothers.

Beginning to wonder what the chances are that this one would be early - I know it could come early, late or even on the due date, but wondered at experiences on MN. Incidentally, I've had 2 very uneventful pregnancies, as is this one so far...

DD 40 + 3 but also wondering whether raspberry leaf tea, fresh pineapple and curry helped!!!

sockmonkey · 26/07/2006 15:50

2 of my sisters seems to have babies bang on due dates, but DS1 was induced 12 days late and DS2 came of his own accord 9 days late after an internal.

cazboldy · 26/07/2006 16:51

DS1 6 days late
DD 1 day late
DS 2 3 weeks early
DS 3 1 day late, so no pattern really.
I don't think that ds3 would have been early if a pipe under my bath hadn't burst when I was out shopping so consequently my kitchen ceiling collapsed and I came back to a flooded house! of course the baby had to arrive the following day!! don't laugh!

jud2905 · 26/07/2006 17:56

ds1 6 weeks early.
Booked in for section with ds2 (was breech) but never made it to my section date as he decided to come early also so ended up with emergency section 4 weeks early!!

spugs · 26/07/2006 20:25

both of my DD were born the day after their due date.

jamiesam · 26/07/2006 20:28

Toady - thanks for that link, I did see that some time ago during investigations after the tear. Unmentionable tests of my nether regions showed some lack of muscle strength and it's largely on that basis that I'm advised not to risk further damage. It's interesting that most MWs think they can prevent a further (significant) tear, although some do express reservations where there has been a period of incontinence (which I did have).

Not read the whole thread but those of you who didn't go into labour naturally at 42 weeks.... do you know that there are women who have 44 weeks pregnancies ! And they will get going on their own and have a normnal size baby but after 43 weeks.

justamum · 26/07/2006 20:48

ds 40+9 after 2 day labour, DD 40+11 after induction. I always thought your 2nd would be earlier than 1st but apparently not! Got really stressed with DD as desperately wanted waterbirth but local hosp won't allow it after 40+10. If i have another baby (I would love one but DH aint sure)I won't expect it until at least 41wks

nicnack2 · 26/07/2006 21:19

ds1 was 2 days early and ds2 was one day early. With both i asked the mw if not here by due dat then could i have sweep. Maybe thats what scared them into coming a wee bit early

sweetkitty · 26/07/2006 21:24

DD1 - 15 days early

DD2 - 12 days late

Was told with DD2 I could only have a homebirth if she came between 39-42 weeks as that is all they will provide midwifery cover for! Was booked in for induction at 42 weeks on the Saturday, she arrived on the Thursday. In the end had a great homebirth in 2 1/2 hours.

Eulalia · 26/07/2006 22:18

I got caught out with baby no. 3 assumed he would be late and he was one day early. Not exactly very early and obviously I do like to bake my babies well

ds1 was 8 days late
dd was 15 days late

CattyB · 26/07/2006 22:27

Don't know why the world so obsessed with 40 week pgs - human gestation is well documented as lasting between 36 and 44 weeks - a huge range I agree but lots of factors are due to genetic makeup and other such unique factors.
Babys generally come when they are ready and not because it says so on the chart - a grand total of 4% are born on their EDD!
I know that in France they start the 40 week count down from conception date as oppossed to last period and have a much healthier outcome with understandably far less intervention in terms of induction and other nasty stuff.

Lornatoo · 26/07/2006 22:33

DS1 5 weeks early, 5 hour labour
DS2 3 weeks early, 2 hour labour
Mine don't hang about!!!!

Lornatoo · 26/07/2006 22:39

P.S normal weights too.
DS1 7lbs 8oz
DS2 8lbs

My Mum reckons the hospital got my dates wrong. Both times?!

rbj949703 · 26/07/2006 22:52

DD1 was induced at 42.5 wks
DS was 'nomal' birth at 41 weeks
DD2 emergency cs at 40 wks + 1 day

izzybiz · 27/07/2006 09:17

Both my children were born at 38 weeks, i needed to be induced with my second, and when the consultant examined me i was 3 cm, so already in labour.

mummy115 · 27/07/2006 16:27

mine were both 10 days early. had epidural with the first and nothing with the second.dilated fast with both.both 6lb 10 oz.

micegg · 27/07/2006 20:26

My DD arrived on her due date much to my surprise. I was convinced she would be late. I had back ache the day before and my mum asked whether I could be in labour. To which I replied, "No. I can't be. Most first babies are late". Shows how much I know.

Nemo1977 · 27/07/2006 20:51

DS 15days over -induced
DD due date- induced

DB am hoping will be on time.

All other babies in my family have been early from 34 weeks onwards.

glassofwine · 27/07/2006 21:03

DD1 - 2 weeks late
DD2 - on time
DS1 - 2 weeks early

Toady · 27/07/2006 21:39

Good job she arrived within their time limits, wonder what they would have done if it was before or after that time period, refused to send a midwife out!!!!!

Lems · 27/07/2006 21:47

Well
1st DS 40wks +4days (7lb 13oz)
2nd DS 37wks (7lb 3oz)
3rd DS 40wks +3days (8lb 1oz)

All started natural 2nd took 6 hrs start 2 finish so would of thought 3rd be quick, no chance, 12hrs. You just dont know!!

louise35 · 27/07/2006 23:27

I was induced at 38 weeks because of pre-eclampsia. DD weighed 8lb 3oz so would have been a whopper had I gone to term. Midwife told me I would have probaby gone 2 weeks overdue if I had been left on my own and they gain about half a pound per week so that would have made her around 10lb 3oz, ooh my eyes are watering at the very thought. I never had another child so I've nothing to compare with, but I would have loved to have had another one and gone into labour naturally as an induced labour is not the ot pleasant of experiences. Mine lasted 26 hours but I had the best reward at the end, my gorgeous DD

glasgowgal · 27/07/2006 23:46

I had the exact same decision to make re elective section. First two babies considerably past due dates and when consultant suggested 38 weeks I pointed this out and he agreed to go for 39. In the end, I had a horrible end to my pregnancy and she had to be delivered at 38 weeks. Incidentally, she was the same size as her sister who had been a fortnight late!

suedonim · 28/07/2006 00:16

Ds1 - 3 days late

Ds2 - induced at 10 days overdue

Dd1 - induced at 7 days overdue

Dd2 - one day early, yay!!!
