My brother was born at 36 weeks, weighing a teeny 5lb 4oz. He was fine though, didn't need any help breathing or anything like that, and is now a strapping 6'3 25 year old!

DS was an emergency section at 37 weeks. No breathing difficulties, he had some cracking lungs on him Smile. Bit blue for the first minute although he was nice and pink before long.

Breastfeeding was a bit of a disaster. But that could have been down to the stressful labour not being a bit early.

Weegiemum · 06/01/2014 21:26

Dd2 was induced and. Born at 36+6, weighed in at 7lb13, no help needed (induction was because I needed medication for a pregnancy problem and they thought she might need special care).

37 weeks is regarded as term. I had 2 spontaneous labours at 37+4 and 39+3 before that.

Ds2, 36+5 and 7lb 4oz. Treated as full term, no problem breathing and discharged next morning. He was sleepy for three days, and then woke up.

He's nearly 7 years now, suffers from mild asthma, but don't know if it's linked at all.

dd born at 37, needed no help but was rather sleepy and hard to feed

ds born at 36 weeks, needed no help, looked rather premature but picked up quickly

Damnautocorrect · 07/01/2014 14:10

Nope ds all fine too and 7lb 10. Developmentally fine

I've had two born at 37 weeks. One was fine, no problems at all just a bit sleepier than other babies. Took a few days to get the hang of bf. The second was ok at birth but developed jaundice, low blood sugar and needed a hot cot. Couldn't feed at all for a couple of weeks as too sleepy so had to use a bottle and literally pout milk in until he had got the hang of bf. required about a week in hospital. Had steroids for lungs with both.

Ds1 born at 37 + 3 4lbs 15oz
Undx IUGR
Prolonged jaundice. Admitted and put under the lights.
Couldn't feed (no milk anyway) ended up with an ng tube.
Sleepy, floppy, very poorly, no one would listen. First time mum, what did I know!?
Had a strep infection in his blood.
Admitted and given IV ABs.
He has asthma, and had quite significant developmental delay as a baby/toddler.
He is now 10.5 and doing well, but his early years were not fun :(

Dd2 was born at 36+6. Was breathing fine but very sleepy and hard to feed. Was re admitted within days with a UTI. Was very floppy and wouldn't wake up :( she was septic.

Also milk intolerant. Hard to know if it was caused by being small 5lb 8 or because she inadvertently picked up an infection in hospital which made her sleepy and hard to feed. I think tbh she caught an infection that lead to the UTI and the antibiotics lead to upsetting her stomach and the CMPI but ill never know.

She struggled with sugar levels was constantly heel pricked. This constant man handling of my baby for the first few hours is what I believe lead to the ultimate cause of her being so poorly.

She also caught bronchiolitis within three weeks which again i believe she caught from the hospital after being admitted with sepsis (get the theme here)

She is fine now though at three.

Hi there, I had to be induced at 37 weeks due to choleostasis. My DS was 8lbs3 and perfectly fine.

DD born at 36 weeks due to IUGR.
Tiny at 4 pounds but absolutely perfect and no breathing issues.
I had had the steroid shots at 24 weeks when we thought she was coming even earlier.
She spent a night in NICU but just so they could monitor her sugar levels.

SantasLittleMonkeyButler · 11/01/2014 21:12

DS1 was born at 37 weeks exactly. He was quite jaundiced and needed phototherapy for 48 hours before being allowed home, but nothing major. He is 16 now & fine Grin.

princesspants · 13/01/2014 20:45

2 of my 3 were born just before 37 weeks (just coincidence) and were absolutely fine. No help needed.

All 3 had reflux but DC#3 was born on due date and was worse than my first two!

Lozza70 · 13/01/2014 20:57

Both of mine were born at 37+2, sheer coincidence, DS1 7lb 9oz and DS2 8lb 9oz. Both absolutely fine, fed really well and put on weight. No issues around breathing or any problems since. I did have steroids just before DS2 was born as the policy in the hosp I was in was to give steriods if you were going to deliver before 39 weeks.
