How long can fathers stay post delivery

Hi all,

As above really, how long can the baby's fathers stay after labour? I understand it's dependant on the type of birth (C Secrion / natural) and the time of it all - but wondered do they literally have a cuddle with baby & are told to leave?

Any experiences appreciated please

Xx

in 2 of my hospital births hubby was allowed to stay on delivery with me untill they took me to postnatal ward then once on postnatal ward it had to go by visiting hours altho my hubby came in early morning and stayed with me untill discharge that day

With DS (normal birth at 6am) DH left soon afterwards, as we were both knackered. But he had barely got home when the hospital rang him (operator cut in while he was giving his brother the news) and he had to come back to the hospital to take over DS's care, because I had to go into theatre for an emergency procedure.

With DD1 (EMCS) he wasn't allowed at the birth, but again took charge of the baby while I was out of it, and left once I was moved to the postnatal ward (tbh my recollection is a little hazy because of the morphine!).

With DD2 (normal birth at 4am) he pushed off fairly soon after, because I wanted a bath and a good snooze!

I really wasn't fussed whether he was there or not in any case - I just wanted to get some rest, and some snuggles with my new baby. And for the second and subsequent children he had to go home and look after the older ones! I don't get why it's so essential to have him around.
