Time of admittance for ELCS

For those who had ELCS - do you remember what time you were expected at the hospital?

Reason I ask is that we have major childcare issues - we can probably find somebody to look after and take our school-aged DCs to school (sleepovers at friends etc) but have no idea what to do with our two year old (no family or friends to help etc and he is a handful too). Nursery would take him but they don't open until 7.30am and I have a horrible feeling that would be too late, especially as the hospital is half an hour away..

Goodness only know what would happen if I had preterm labour, I am trying not to think about that Shock

I didn't have to be in until 11am - but I look like I'm definitely the exception!

If childminder/ask at nursery falls through, I think I'll probably end up driving myself there nice and early, maybe dropping DH and DS off to loiter in the street outside nursery until it opens. Then I'll dodge the rush hour traffic and be sure to get to the hospital in time. Then DH can catch the train (10 minute walk, 10 minute journey) after nursery opens and unlike me, he can run the mile from the station to the hospital if the traffic looks crap. I doubt he'd get there after 8.30am, so that should hopefully be enough time especially if the staff there are human and drop me down the list! Most people would probably prefer to be higher up anyway.

Ugh, I hate these situations. People with parents/in-laws nearby don't realise just how lucky they are! We cope with pretty much everything else by taking it in turns/doing things when DC at school/nursery but this is one thing we just can't get around. I have no clue at all what we'll do if baby decides to come early. Cry and panic, probably!! Stay put, baby.

I had a consultant appointment today so I asked about the likely admittance time. 7am!! Shock Ah well.

On the plus side, they don't operate before 8.30am so hopefully that will give DH enough time to get to the hospital somehow. The consultant also suggested they would be flexible about list position if needs be too, so that's good news.

So hopefully we have a way forward! Now all we need to do is worry about what happens in an emergency.. Confused The consultant put it at 50/50 I'd make my ELCS date. Joy.
