How long did your first labours last from start to finish?

Am 34 weeks tomorrow and I think it's finally starting to hit me that sometime in the next 8 weeks there's going to be a baby here!
Lots of people voluntarily offer their birth stories - have heard horror stories like 'I had to be induced and after 3 days of no progress had an emergency c section'.
I know first births tend to be slower than subsequent ones but how long did yours last?

26 hours.
Shock

5 hours from waking up to snuggling new baby! Mine was a straightforward, intervention free labour and birth for a first timer. It can happen! Good luck and please remember that once you have your baby you probably won't care how he or she got here Smile

Ds1 - waters broke, contractions within 15mins or so, started pushing about 3h later. 6h total (lovely gentle home birth so no time pressure with the pushing bit!)

DTs - induced, early labour for couple of hours, ARM at 3cm, 2 babies inside 40 minutes (ouch).

Good luck! Quick like 6 hours is good, super-quick not so much Wink

Active labour 4.5hrs Smile

elliejjtiny · 23/01/2014 16:38

4h 20m established labour but over 3 weeks of niggling beforehand.

missmargot · 23/01/2014 16:44

Early labour from the Monday afternoon, my waters broke Wednesday morning and regular contractions started on Wednesday night. Thursday morning I was put on a drip to speed up contractions as it was 24 hours since my waters broke. I went from 2cm dilated to fully dilated in an hour and only had 15 minutes of pushing before he was born. All in all not that bad, I could definitely do it again.

QuietNinjaTardis · 23/01/2014 16:48

First labour was about 15 hours, that included 2 and half hours of pushing. Second labour about 2 and a half hours with 15 minutes of pushing Grin

Laetissimus · 23/01/2014 17:49

First was 28 hours of pain!
Worried about second delivery but only lasted about 3 hours and baby popped out so quickly GrinGrin

learnasyougo · 23/01/2014 17:57

I'm so envious of all these short labours.

hugoagogo · 23/01/2014 18:10

noon on monday till 10 to midnight on wednesday and that was a cs.

He was a ginormous baby. Grin

Laetissimus · 23/01/2014 18:34

And the three hour labour produced a 9lb 13 oz bundle!

RugbyWidow7 · 23/01/2014 20:39

26 hours total. 13 'active' I believe. Hoping to shorten thus dramatically this time!!

HugoTheHippo · 23/01/2014 21:48

11 hours from very first tingly, not-at-all-painful contraction to holding baby in my arms. Contractions only really got painful about six hours in and I got to the delivery room just over an hour before baby arrived, so it seemed pretty quick! My notes said two hours in active labour.

Hopelass · 24/01/2014 09:24

From waters going and contractions starting to holding baby was 18.5 hours but in my notes it was 9 hours active labour. First baby.

EmB1715 · 24/01/2014 16:19

29 hours. Urgh!

naty1 · 24/01/2014 22:41

Days started 3am went in about 7 back home 10 as only 2cm 1am waters broke naturally (lot of pain by then as back to back) went back in still 2cm asked to stay in and for induction I was given pethidine (still feel contractions very strongly) finally epidural as g&a useless amazing:) born 7.10 pm ventouse and forceps 7lb10. So not that big.
Family history of back to back. The pain excruciating radiating down my legs. I don't think I could feel the contractions elsewhere.
It's if you get slow labour between the 2-4 cm where you get no pain relief that it is worst so hope that goes quick for you

Wincher · 24/01/2014 22:49

From first contraction to baby in my arms was about 38 hours. Op baby, cascade of interventions etc. however baby no 2 was a wonderful home water birth, 6 hours start to finish.

SupermansGirl · 24/01/2014 22:51

DD born at 37 weeks very quick labour 8 hours from waters breaking to her being in my arms. Only 3 hours of real labour though.

Skiingmaniac · 24/01/2014 22:54

About 50 hours from waters breaking till delivery.....but pain free as epiduraled right up Thanks

MrsPatMustard · 25/01/2014 19:31

About nine hours from the start of active labour (or 13 hours from the point at which my waters broke, take your pick.)

TeaAndFag · 25/01/2014 19:37

32 and a half hours from first twinge to DS being yanked out born. I think I was just unlucky though and don't think a labour as long as mine is the norm, from speaking to other women. DD on the other hand shot out in 3 hours start to finish, 20 mins pushing, wham bam thank you ma'am Grin

VelvetGecko · 25/01/2014 19:38

24 hours of sheer hell.
Am very Envy of all these fast labours, a friend of mine recently had hers on the bathroom floor ffs.

MadameJosephine · 25/01/2014 19:39

I was induced but from them breaking my waters and putting a drip up to start contractions to delivery was only 7 and a half hours

mistlethrush · 25/01/2014 19:39

34 hrs.. inc 3 hrs of pushing and an emcs.

TeaAndFag · 25/01/2014 19:40

(DD was 9lb 11oz too, so don't necessarily think big baby=horrible labour)
