Being induced today (39+1), eek!

I'm terrified. Please hold my hand!

Being induced because blood pressure is high and they found 1+ protein in my urine. I also have a UTI (not sure if that makes a difference).

Baby is a boy (according to 2 sonographers. I'm 39+1 today.

DH is with me. Am on my way home to pick up my hospital bag, then back to ante-natal ward. Eek!

Thank you so much for the thoughts and advice! Thanks

DH is coming back in between 10 and 11am. He could be here from 8am according to visiting hours but since he generally stays until 10pm I think it's too long a day for him and would rather he got a lie-in and a good night's sleep (and not have to travel in the rush hour).

I wouldn't mind a c-section if needed, I was born by CS myself. I know the recovery can be difficult though so will go for whatever they offer me, including the dreaded drip.

It seems to be a no-brainer to get an epidural if going on the drip - I've been told that by so many people in real life as well as MN. Funny that before Monday we were booked in for the birth centre (midwife-led unit) where you can't have an epidural and now I'm almost certain to have one!

Just had a doctor come in and say they are going to try some more gel around lunchtime. If cervix still at 1cm 6 hours later it may be straight in for CS. If it has dilated a bit more they'll break my waters and then put me on drip after 2 hours if contractions haven't ramped up on their own. Small chance they might try another pessary but they seem reluctant, which is fine by me! So at least things are happening. Smile

My BP was around 160/100 on Monday and Tuesday, then once they put me on meds it dropped to around 140/85 which is roughly where it is now.

Woke up feeling a bit blue this morning but with so many nice messages and the chat with the doctor I feel better now Smile Thanks

PS hope your BP drops a bit sarahleanne and they let you go home - what's it on at the moment? 35 weeks is pretty good though in terms of baby's development so don't worry if they do end up inducing you. Thinking of you! Thanks

If anything an epidural will be good for your BP, I was very much encouraged to take one especially when they connected the drip, at this point any hope of a nice mobile labour is probably out the window because you will be hooked up to every alarm and monitor going.

I've been exactly where you are OP and the way my current pregnancy is going it's going to happen all over again.

All the best for the next gel I hope it gets you going!!

pudseypie · 12/12/2013 09:45

Will cross everything for you that gel works. The drip really got things going for me but my ds was stubborn and wouldn't come out and I ended up with emcs anyway. You just have to go with the flow in these situations and once you have baby in your arms you won't care about the hours beforehand. Do you know the gender of your baby?

pudseypie · 12/12/2013 09:46

Sorry just seen its a boy . That explains reluctance to come out! !! Mine was same!

violetbean · 12/12/2013 09:56

Thanks all! Yep I think he's a strong-willed stubborn baby, he didn't like being scanned either so we had to come back in for a second anomaly scan Smile

Good luck to those in a waiting game, nice to be able to chat online and keep busy while we wait!

Good luck! How exciting - your baby will be here to cuddle soon(ish)!!!!! Thinking of youSmile

Badmumof3 · 12/12/2013 10:04

Good luck. All 3 of mine were induced, and the third one took a long time to get started (4 days!!). Once I actually got into labour I progressed really quickly and officially labour was just over an hour.

Try and stay positive (sounds like you are). Keep moving about and keep remembering that very soon you'll be holding your baby. I know it seems like forever, but in the grand scheme of things, its a tiny part of your life. Xxxxx

Badmumof3 · 12/12/2013 10:07

By the way, he'll probably be a very laid back boy! [Grin]

violetbean · 12/12/2013 10:44

Oooh hope so badmomof3! Smile

Spent a bit of time on the ball this morning. Mucus plug just came out, gross! Grin

My blood pressure is up a bit this morning despite the meds, oops. Have constant pain at the mo and TENS is helping a lot with that. DH on his way.

Sounds like things are starting to get going now! Really excited for you! And good that DH will arrive soon for support.

Soon your DS will be here! Have you picked out a name yet?

violetbean · 12/12/2013 10:54

Yep we have a name for baby Grin

AmandaCooper · 12/12/2013 11:28

Just giving DS his morning feed and thought if check in and see how you are doing. It sounds like things are getting going. Glad the Tens is working for you.

violetbean · 12/12/2013 12:28

DH walked in at 11.15ish and I immediately threw up. Oops. Grin Then the lunch lady came round with lunch and dinner menus. Great timing! Confused

My blood pressure has come down a bit, yay!

I love TENS Grin Am on level A3 (think there are 15 levels). It's like a computer game or something Smile

Just had a student MW and her tutor come in for her to practice feeling for the baby. It was really fun, nice to get a feel for exactly how he's lying as they were talking through the whole process. Great distraction while DH was off getting his lunch. Student was so nervous but very sweet. Baby is hard to feel especially as placenta is anterior, so I gave her a tricky case, poor thing! doesn't help that I have a fair bit of padding on my tummy Grin

Haahoooo · 12/12/2013 13:34

Ooh keen to know the name! I expect you'll inform us upon arrival Smile

Sounds like you're being well looked after, although sorry to hear re throwing up earlier.

This is making me feel very excited about the arrival of DS in April!

violetbean · 12/12/2013 16:53

Ohhh still here, 3 hours after gel inserted (OUCH) and pain has receded again. Baby clearly wants to stay in there, sigh! About to have dinner, yum. Been walking up and down stairs, watching DVDs and chatting with DH. Freaked out a bit when another lady on the ward started screaming through contractions. Had a little cry and DH said it would be fine and that we're a team and we'll get through it. Other lady has been taken to labour ward now, rumour is she's about to have her baby. Smile

Will update again soon, hopefully with more interesting news... Hmm a bit doubtful

OP posts:
pudseypie · 12/12/2013 16:58

Baby is too comfy where he is! You'll be fine and it sounds like you have a very supportive dh.
Keep us updated and eat while you can and move around now. Thinking of you and getting excited for you!

violetbean · 12/12/2013 17:54

Thank you Smile

Since dinner pain has ramped up a bit, yay! Hope this means something Smile

Blood pressure has crept up again (160/94) but have just taken the evening dose of the medication so hopefully it'll come back down.

Will definitely let you know name once baby is born!

OP posts:
violetbean · 12/12/2013 18:31

Fuck, contractions every 3 mins now. Breathing through the pain, level 4 of tens.

OP posts:
Hannahwillo88 · 12/12/2013 19:29

Good luck hope it's not much longer for you now Grin

Haahoooo · 12/12/2013 19:54

Exciting! Thinking of you! Wonder if he'll be there before midnight! Good luck

violetbean · 12/12/2013 20:05

Just had half an hour of monitoring and then a hideously painful internal examination and cervix is still only 1-2cm. Bugger.

pudseypie · 12/12/2013 20:09

violetbean · 12/12/2013 20:16
