If I go overdue I'll miss out on a free family cruise!

Hi,

A one week cruise has been planned for the whole family for next May, all booked & paid for (extremely generously) by my FIL. It is a surprise for my MIL's 70th birthday.

I am SO excited about it, I've never been on a cruise before, it's not the kind of thing we could ever afford. It was booked before anyone knew I was pregnant.

My baby is due on 16th November. I've just found out that babies less than 6 months and 1 day old are not allowed on the cruise - due to the lack of appropriate medical facilities on board. The cruise leaves on the 25th of May.

So basically I have to have had this baby by the 24th November or I won't be able to go!! Nobody told me as they didn't want to stress me out.
If it comes to it DH and DS would have to go without me..........I will cry if that happens! We have a balcony room and everything, the whole family are going. Plus it's my DS's 5th birthday on the day the cruise leaves.

Please help me will this baby out!!

If you were me would you see if you could be induced a few days early to ensure you could go? I really don't want to be induced but if it comes to it. ......do you think they'd agree?!

Good luck. Try side stepping some stairs too!

munchkinmaster · 17/11/2013 17:11

Hopefully it's all underway but just to say I requested induction at 41 weeks on the dot. DH is a neonatologist and said that was as overdue as he felt comfortable going. Midwife could only book for 41 + 3 but I met with the consultant who agreed, perhaps as a proffesional courtesy.

Was it a good idea? well it was painfully slow, took 4 days and a cascade of interventions later ended in a c section.

Or according to DH: baby wasn't going to come out any faster if wasn't induced and the cord looked a bit rotten so thank goodness we started induction early.

Enjoy the cruise.

I had a due date baby and I SWEAR that it was bouncing on the birth ball and walking lots that got things moving. Good luck OP, x

SoonToBeSix · 17/11/2013 20:18

Fenugreek can induce labour but do not take it unless you are overdue as it cab be very effective and you do not want to go into pre term labour.

NachoAddict · 17/11/2013 20:31

Sounds promising OP - good luck!

I had 3 slightly early babies and all 3 labours kicked off after a full day of standing and/or walking. Worth a try?

Bambamb · 18/11/2013 08:12

Thanks all, it's a girl! Can't quite believe it, it seems the clary sage & jasmine oil foot rub did the trick- thanks for the aromatherapy suggestion whoever it was! I also had a bath with those oils in yesterday morning and started getting mild pains about 12 noon. By5 ish it llooked like they were heading somewhere so packed DS off to his Auntie and Uncles, got to the hospital at about 7 and she was born at 9.37! Think I'm still in shock! Got home 5 hours after she was born, she's a wee beauty.
Wow so many things to feel thankful for, and we get to go on the cruise, hurrah! !
