Section advice and dating scan question

How do they plan for elective sections?

I've been told they'll plan it for a week or two before the due date, and also that they let you go full term and if you go into labour, do an emergency Hmm

What's the deal?

Also... Dating scans. They've given us our date and it's nearly 2 weeks out. How can they be so inaccurate, but base so much on this date? I'm worried because the elective section date will be based on this, and it's wrong.

Will they re-date at a later stage? Or do they go by this date as gospel (even though it's wrong and I've told them it's wrong!)

Me too op. Also freaking out. I'm only 15 weeks with dc2 but it's already playing on my mind as this is my first section and categorically can't give birth vaginally again. I'm seeing the consultant next week so will feedback his thoughts.

Oh I had to fast from midnight.

Op, the thing with the dates... If your last period started on the 1st of a month, ran to the 5th and you DTD on the 14th if the month, the pregnancy would be dated from the first of the month, not the 14th.

my planned section was done at 38 weeks and 6 days.

obstetrician told me if I did go into labour early to go straight to the hospital and unless I was one of those lucky people who have an extremely fast labour I would still have a section. they would see the situauron at the time to make sure mum and baby are safe.

I had my baby at 12pm one day and was discharged the next day at 10pm. again I was told recovery is quicker and better with a planned.

@Rubyroo and all - wow thanks so much for the info! I feel much better just knowing what to expect.

Cheers!
