Argh! I'm a week overdue with, what is predicted to be a BIG Bubba (no.2) & going for a sweep tomorrow. I just wondered, in your collective experiences, whether they are really effective & how quickly they took effect. I'm not massively bothered about being overdue, just that he's still growing!!!
Thanks in advance xx

Ps. Tried all the usual things too .... Nothing!

21 hours on from sweep- contractions on & off all evening, but still absolutely NOTHING!!! The impatience is getting the better of me, not that its helpful. But at least I had a good nights sleep. Let's hope a good walk & some pineapple for breakfast get things going!!!

starlight Sad. I'm very sorry about your experience.

I'm 40 weeks today and watching with interest.

The midwife told me that I would be having a sweep on Wednesday. Hmm I'm quite happy to tell her no, if needs be, and was discussing with DH last night.

We're of the view that by Wed, I'll be 40+4. So not massively overdue. Therefore, we should decline and wait a bit longer.

We've been doing hypnobirthing with an amazing retired midwife and she sent me an email last night reminding me that the baby isn't "overdue" until 42 weeks. Also that (as said upthread), the sweep will probably only work if cervix is favourable and the baby was going to come anyway So, I'm of the view that I should just leave things a bit longer

It's just that everyone in my NCT class seems to be having sweeps and as this is our first DC, it is easy to start doubting yourself so this thread us great.

starlight - thank you for posting about what happened to you. I'm going to raise this with midwife.
