membrane sweeps - do they work (and/or hurt?)

Okay, so my due date isn't until Sunday 9th. I have had the most horrendous hyperemesis throughout this pregnancy and I know have anaemia too, and other DDs to cope with (I did eventually give up work on Friday!).

I have a MW appointment on Thursday and was wondering about asking her if she would do a sweep to see if it would help me along a bit as I really am at the end of my sanity now. The hospital previously said they wouldn't induce "for a bit of sickness" Yes, that is how a midwife described hyperemesis Angry.

Anyway, who's had this done? Did it work? Did it hurt? Blush Is it just like a normal internal?

TIA

I had 2 sweeps with dd2 as went 11 days overdue in total. 1st sweep did absolutely nothing and was facing being induced much to my horror as wanted delivery at small community hospital and would have needed to go to district hospital to be induced. Pestered my midwife for a 2nd sweep with she did after listening to me nag her for ages and had dd2 24hrs later and avoided being induced....doesn't hurt just a bit uncomfortable

I had a sweep last week by a male doctor and it really hurt (I am not usually a wimp but had to squeeze dps hand!).
Thankfully it did the job though and I started in labour that eveing.
Reckon a MW would maybe do a gentler job as my internals never hurt after that even when propped up out of the pool!!!

I had a sweep at 40+1 weeks with DD2 did nothing at all was v uncomfortable though and wouldn't have another one.

After trying everything to get DD2 to shift I have arrived at the conclusion that they do come when ready and next time I am not doing anything, DD2 arrived 12 days late think it was because the placenta was failing as she is such a gannet.

I had a membrane sweep with ds2, at 41wks, it was very uncomfortable and a little painful. He showed up 10 hours later after only 1hr 45 in labour, so it certainly workd for me.

Good Luck

just to update - MW wouldn't do sweep anyway as said head not engaged enough.

Judging by some of the posts I've got off lightly!!!!
