vagina etiquette?

I'm due in 7 weeks and I've allowed myself to get a little... ungroomed downstairs. Did any of you get 'tidied up' downstairs or did you just leave it until afterwards? I've never paid for waxing or anything and shaving is out of the question atm. I'm sort of thinking that whatever my vagina looks like the midwife will have seen worse but I don't know what the general standard is.

Any opinions?

In all honesty although you worry now you won't care and neither will the MW.

somethingscary · 25/08/2012 16:12

I really really hope your vagina isn't hairy.

24Hours · 25/08/2012 16:14

No don't think twice - it's not there to be judged.

I would definitely leave it as I wouldn't fancy regrowth on a healing tear, for example, should that be the case for you.

somethingscary haha yes... thanks for the correction :D

I got DP to give me a once over with his clippers the week before I was due with my last DC.
The other two times I was au naturale.

The midwife didn't mention it with any of my labours. they really must see allsorts though & I wouldn't worry about it Smile

bushymcbush · 25/08/2012 16:23

Sweet bejesus - is that all you're worried about? Really? I'd be preparing relaxation techniques and reading up on natural birthing positions if I were you, not worrying about the completely normal hair on my fanjo.

Are you going to get fake tan and nails done too?

People do ask, quite often.
The answer usually is - whatever you're comfortable with.

coffeeinbed · 25/08/2012 16:25

I meant - people ask the midwife quite often.

bushymcbush · 25/08/2012 16:26

'The midwife didn't mention it with any of my labours.'

Why would they?

coffeeinbed · 25/08/2012 16:28

Midwife isn't bothered in the slightest.

ShatnersBassoon · 25/08/2012 16:30

I bet midwives must think 'I hope she didn't do that for my benefit' every time they see a styled fanny.

WandaDoff · 25/08/2012 16:32

'The midwife didn't mention it with any of my labours.'

Why would they?

That was my point. They wouldn't mention it, they probably wouldn't even notice.

booflebean · 25/08/2012 16:39

I've booked a wax 10 days before my due date this time (DC2).

Last time it was like the Amazon and I did feel uncomfortable tbh.

booflebean · 25/08/2012 16:39

Should add I am dark - my hair grows 4 inches down each thigh... Blush

Badgerina · 25/08/2012 16:52

"No. I'm sorry Ms amybelle1990 I'm going to have to send you home. There's NO WAY we will allow you to give birth in our hospital, with your wookie looking like that. Come back when you're appropriately styled." Grin

fuckbadger · 25/08/2012 16:53

I just had a quick trim and tidy up at the sides, more for keeping it clean afterwards than anything else.

A friend of mine had a spray tan and a vajazzle especially for labour!

Binfullofmaggotsonthe45 · 25/08/2012 16:58

I was going to trim up before the birth, as I have strange long pubic hair that grows a sort of goatee at the front. TMI I know.

However on my last midwife appt I had to go straight in to hospital due to be induced, so I had no time.

I had my waters broken and when the midwife was checking the dilation she said "my there's a lot of hair down there!"

I replied, "I'm sorry, I didn't have time to wax"

She said,"I was talking about hair on the baby's head!"

I ignored mine on the basis that I hadn't seen it in four months anyway...

rowingdowntheriver · 25/08/2012 17:07

Ha ha binfull! That made me chuckle

nickelcognito · 25/08/2012 17:10

god, mine was like a forest until about 8 weeks after the birth.
then suddenly it was beautiful.

suddenly, overnight, with no seeming hair loss, the hair was minimal and felt like it did before.
Grin

small things amuse Wink

it made me quite glad i hadn't trimmed it

mrsmoodypants · 25/08/2012 17:12

bin that's hilarious!!!!!

Shortbutsosweet · 25/08/2012 17:14

Amy, don't worry about the hair.
You may shit when pushing! Blush
I had a pedicure prior to delivery because I couldn't reach my feet and promptly bled all over my feed when I gave birth due. To a second degree tear!

5madthings · 25/08/2012 17:19

omg binfull i just laughed and spat my tea everywhere. ds2 and ds3 asked what i am laughing at....

op i always trim or dp trims for me and i did that before birth. ime neatly trimmed was a bit easier for dealing with all the post birth bleedind. just easier to keep clean and dry. but that coukd just be me.

midwives have seen it all and they wont care. i have a friend who is a midwife actually i may ask her! Grin

Floggingmolly · 25/08/2012 17:21

God almighty! Why would the midwife mention it??????? You're delivering a baby, not starring in a porn show! I'd have been well pissed off if my midwife had bothered to mention anything so bloody insignificant. Your nether regions do have a starring role, it has to be said, but only by default. Relax Grin
