Ok, so which MNer gave birth in my campsite this morning? I have some questions....

like, how did you fill the birth pool?
How did you keep hot?
How did you empty it?
Did you also deliver the placenta in the bell tent?

And many MANY more!

And, can I meet you? Am also in bell tent with 7 week old!

"I will buy them gifts to try and make up for it."

Will you buy them gifts to make up for the noise your baby may make crying at night? Because that's likely to be just as loud, and go on much longer than your birth noises.

Seriously - when did we all get so precious about a bit of noise? Especially when it's the result of such a rare event as a birth on a campsite?

It's all so mimsy.

AlfalfaMum · 15/08/2012 18:51

Hmm, I'm with Shagmund on this. It's sad to see so much nastiness directed at a birth, no matter how alternative.
The main issue most on this thread have is apparently that it was so rude and inconsiderate towards the other festival goers, whereas when we look at the actual evidence it seems the reaction of the people you're all so concerned about has been positive: we have the newspaper article, two mumsnetters on this thread who are there, and another mumsnetter's uncle who is there and says there's a warm fuzzy feeling at the festival because of it.

TunaPastaBake · 15/08/2012 18:52

some woman moaning for a few hours then appearing next door with a delicious newborn baby - what a romantic view of it all take your rose tinted specs off

OwlLady · 15/08/2012 18:52

it was a folk festival :)!

Shagmundfreud · 15/08/2012 18:54

"What I do care about is people thinking it is ok to monopolise shared facilities for a long period of time. Those showers were for everyone, and it was rude and selfish to effectively shut down 50% of them for an entire morning."

It must have been such a terrible inconvenience to have to cue for an extra 20 minutes for the shower. Hmm

I can scarcely see for the heaving waves of hoisted bosoms on this thread. Grin

Unclench ffs.

HmmThinkingAboutIt · 15/08/2012 18:54

I thought it didn't bother you shag.

Shagmundfreud · 15/08/2012 18:55

"it was a folk festival"

It would have been full of people who look like <a class="break-all" href="http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?um=1&hl=en&sa=N&rlz=1C1ARAB_enGB443GB443&biw=1280&bih=899&tbm=isch&tbnid=XxhGDCUhG28mWM:&imgrefurl=www.apengine.org/2010/06/it-came-from-pebble-mill/nutsinmay/&docid=f3a-bHzfpAAYxM&imgurl=www.apengine.org/wp-content/uploads/2010/06/nutsinmay.jpg&w=408&h=305&ei=aeIrULzINMis0QXCnoGwCA&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=203&vpy=205&dur=393&hovh=179&hovw=239&tx=78&ty=89&sig=116389307987245435093&page=1&tbnh=157&tbnw=209&start=0&ndsp=20&ved=1t:429,r:0,s:0,i:100" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">this

EdgarOlymPic · 15/08/2012 18:56

my children are creatively named, and have had four homebirths.

i still don't approve of making alot of noise on a campsite if you can avoid it, if that's what happened - not that we know - one persons idea of alot of noise might be very little.

cakeismysaviour · 15/08/2012 18:58

Tbh if 50% of the showers were shut down for the entire morning, that is really taking the piss. She didn't even ask the owners if this would be ok!

TunaPastaBake · 15/08/2012 18:59

Yeah cause you know what the owners would have said ..

Pekka · 15/08/2012 19:17

I think the fellow campers shouting go for it must have thought she was having sex :) How glad I am they were not in the tent next to me, but good luck to them.

TunaPastaBake · 15/08/2012 19:21

If someone shouted 'Go for it' whilst I was giving birth I doubt whether they would have shouted it again !

HmmThinkingAboutIt · 15/08/2012 19:23

Because how many people who DID have a problem, would complain under the circumstances? It one of those things you can't, no matter what.

I wouldn't.

Northernlurker · 15/08/2012 19:24

There is no reason at all for the children nearby to remain frightened by this. My kids would probably have been a bit freaked but when all was well in the morning I would probably have done what the OP of this thread did and stuck my head in the tent to say hi, and made a brief visit to show my dcs that mum and baby were fine and well. I'm pretty confident the excitement of a brand new baby that you heard being born would wipe out any other feelings. The shower thing - come on it was one morning!

What's really disturbing about this thread is it shows how screwed up our perspective is on life now. A whole new person came in to the world in that tent. She opened her eyes for the first time there. Her lungs filled with air there. It all began for her. That is a basically exciting thing. It's a miracle and it should always be respected and celebrated. Where are our feelings of fellowship with this couple? But no, it's all 'my sleep was disturbed, the children were alarmed (won't somebody think of the children), I couldn't have a shower' FFS. This does not happen every day. We medicalise birth just like we medicalise death. Like it's something that MUST be seperate and apart. Like it's something we don't want to know about. Birth is bloody and intense and noisy and amazing. Birth brings new life in to the world - it should be cheered about. Always. Whenever, wherever.

Galadrial and Chris had a baby - how cool is that? Congratulations is all that needs to be said.

Btw I am NOT a hippy. I've never been to a festival, don't own a tent, had three hospital births.

LynetteScavo · 15/08/2012 19:25

I hear Eddie Readers is performing at that festival.

I'm imagining the expectant mother bouncing up and down on a birth ball as Eddi sings "It's got to beeeeeeee worth it....."

5madthings · 15/08/2012 19:34

what northern lurker said :)

TunaPastaBake · 15/08/2012 19:36

I do hope she had a tent carpet -so middle class Grin

Where did they empty the birthing pool ?

PissyDust · 15/08/2012 19:39

How do you fill a water pool in the shower and then move it, I would have thought it would be to heavy to move?

Northernlurker · 15/08/2012 19:40

How the pool got emptied was one of Starlight's original wonderings. I hope she found that out.

Northernlurker · 15/08/2012 19:40

The pool was filled with hoses from the showers.

BadDayAtTheOrifice · 15/08/2012 19:43

You use hose pipes Pissy

TunaPastaBake · 15/08/2012 19:45

So pitched pretty close to the shower block then !

MattDamonIsMyLover · 15/08/2012 19:49

Of course Northern's words are nice and kind. And you can find any number of threads on MM where people celebrate, enjoy, congratulate complete strangers for the birth of their DCs. I think you misunderstood it all, NL. No-one's arguing with that.

Northernlurker · 15/08/2012 20:07

'I would be very pissed off at some blimming crazy attention seeking cow bellowing her lungs out next to me all night'

'I hate people like that. For no good reason'

'downright odd, pretentious and selfish'

'to deliberately inflict the labour on other people in a campsite is inappropriate and selfish'

'I was just thinking how fucking annoyed I would be if I and my kids were kept up all night by a screaming hippy in the next door tent'

'the problem is that she inflicted this on other people'

'an exhibitionist hippy .......It's grotesquely selfish / self centred'

'I just wouldn't want my break ruined by a screaming hippy, or my son kept up all night listening to someone in pain when I have paid to be on holiday'

'I don't know, it just seems rather self-centred and attention-seeking'

'Unbelievably selfish. Pitch your tent in your own bloody garden, hippy lady. I'd be furious if I'd paid money to go camping and a) me and my kids had to listen to screaming all night and b) we couldn't even have a sodding shower'

'It's just...not terribly good manners. And rather presumptive'

'more than a little bit attention seeking and strange'

'The screaming could well have panicked a young child. The screaming probably did keep many campers awake. This might have been the only holiday some of these people get, and it ended up centred around this one woman and her unnecessary, inconsiderate birth plans'

'It's the fact it was planned, at great inconvenience and difficulty for everyone....so contrived and pretentious'

'Exactly, its the self centredness of it! If I have a precious weekend off at a festival I dont want to be kept awake by some eejit giving birth in the next tent'

'Maybe Sharon Galadrial needs to pull her head out of her arse and realise that her need for a hippytastic birth, does not mean that it is ok to impact on other people's holidays. '

'I imagine they are the insufferable kind of hippies'

'This story should be put next to the world 'entitled' in the dictionary'

'Self-absorbed, pretentious twats'

'Middle-class pretentious shite'

'Self absorbed fucking hippies. Lovely "experience" for them no doubt, but what if something had gone horribly wrong? Would have been a bit of a git for the fellow campers had an ambulance had to come blaring in during the night'

'I do think she's being incredibly selfish in not considering the impact it might have on other people also staying there. '

'this deliberate campbirthing is very drama queen'

'the first time on here that I have seen a woman's birth choices be so laughable and also so selfish'

'To choose to do it somewhere you KNOW it will cause inconvenience and disturbance to others, when you don't actually have to do it there, I think is overstepping the mark.
'

'She chose an inappropriate place to give birth. It is entirely possible to give birth outside in a tent without hogging the showers, disturbing holidaymakers....Mind you, if she wasn't in a packed campsite she wouldn't have got the attention she so obviously craves'

WOW. I misunderstood all of that? How thick of me Hmm

MattDamonIsMyLover · 15/08/2012 20:12

Oh, I meant those nice sentiments about babies you said. The attention seeking is the bit that made it 'wirthy' of a long thread.
