like, how did you fill the birth pool?
How did you keep hot?
How did you empty it?
Did you also deliver the placenta in the bell tent?

And many MANY more!

And, can I meet you? Am also in bell tent with 7 week old!

Wouldn't happen in an Outwell.

BadDayAtTheOrifice · 17/08/2012 14:25

I'd give birth in my Outwell Grin
Theres loads of room for a pool, fairy lights and it has a skylight, so I could see the stars!

SlubberInAWrestlersLeotard · 17/08/2012 14:30

What if you got amniotic fluid on the fitted carpet? Or tore a hole in the inner by using the internal coat hanging racks for leverage?
They'd never give you a refund you know.

Grin

That's the odd thing seeker, if I were a spiritual lentil-weaver I wouldn't give birth at broadstairs, lovely as it is.

Unless perhaps it was the closest they could find for dates!

EdgarOlymPic · 17/08/2012 20:18

there is a campsite in Suffolk i'd very happily give birth at.

lovely quiet place with four vans there even on a bank holiday weekend!

only £6 pun as well :)

festival: no.

lentilweavinghippy · 17/08/2012 21:03

Could she not have just kept the noise down? Is all the screaming & hollering really necessary? Yes it hurts but screeching about it doesn't make it any less painful!

Congrats to the proud parents btw. Just remember, next time shhhh... Or maybe bring along an accordian & have an enthusiastic sing-song to drown out the bellowing.

StarlightMcKenzie · 17/08/2012 21:07

Dunno. With my 3rd yelling for the 2nd half of each contraction was a reflex and NOTHING would have stopped me!

EdgarOlymPic · 17/08/2012 21:33

i listened to a MW on R4 who served in Afghanistan who said that Afghani women usually birthed near-silently, without pain relief.. (and having walked miles to the birthing centre)..

although if noise helps you/ her, go for it!

EdgarOlymPic · 17/08/2012 21:34

i have heard yelling helps.

5madthings · 17/08/2012 21:35

i didnt scream, but i did curse and moo like a wounded bison, the mooing was an instinctive gutteral sound, i couldnt stop it and i actually apologised inbetween contractions for doing it! i have a friend who is a midwife and she says it is a very common noise for women to make in labour.

EdgarOlymPic · 17/08/2012 21:49

that's interesting - possibly the Afghani silence is as much a social imposition as typical noise in this country...there is no 'natural' situation...

EdgarOlymPic · 17/08/2012 21:50

except what seems natural to that woman at that time

ZombiesAreClammyDodgers · 22/08/2012 08:14

Why are we assuming she calls herself Galadriel and her parents couldn't possibly have named her that?? The Lord of the Rings was written DECADES ago, you know. 1954 to be precise.

ZombiesAreClammyDodgers · 22/08/2012 08:20

It may have been rude to not let other people know, but to not let other people know because their children might have got terrified.. I think that's a bit far fetched.
This wasn't in the middle of a children's camp or something..

glastocat · 22/08/2012 11:29

Never mind the children, I would have been terrified! I had a terrible time giving birth myself, I could do without the reminder thanks, especially when I am enjoying myself at a festival. I know the noises I made would have frightened the horses, never mind any small children.

MattDamonIsMyLover · 22/08/2012 20:39

I wonder if they are still travelling the festivals now with the newborn. Well, wonder is perhaps overstating it. I don't really care :)

LibrariansMakeNovelLovers · 27/08/2012 16:59

I saw her at a lovely tiny festival this weekend. I didn't do the stalker thing of running up and congratulating her Grin

StarlightMcKenzie · 28/08/2012 18:05

Ooh, which one?

I was planning to go to one too but chickened out after seeing the weather forecast.

LibrariansMakeNovelLovers · 31/08/2012 12:25

SW - I think we've spoken about it before, I've name-changed since then. It's the most fantastic little festie.

StarlightMcKenzie · 31/08/2012 12:32

Ahhhhhhhh Wink

Not so small any more though I gather!?

StarlightMcKenzie · 31/08/2012 12:33

Anyway, - I did find out how they emptied the pool.

They, to quote 'poured it over the roots of the trees'!

EnjoyResponsibly · 31/08/2012 12:36

From the article:

Cheered on by other campers shouting "go for it"

PMSL! Never realised "STFU" and "WTAF has hapoened to all the bastarding hot water in the shower" could be so distorted when bellowed through canvas Grin

slartybartfast · 31/08/2012 12:37

of course - they come from Lewes.
that just explains it.

did the dh work for the festival?
and was there really actual screaming from the mum?

StarlightMcKenzie · 31/08/2012 12:39

I didn't hear any screaming, but I was over the other side of the campsite (although not THAT far away).

I kinda wish I had heard it though. I'm not sure how I feel about the way they went about it, but know enough about birth to understand that if they'd been more open they may not have been able to do it that way, which I admit I'm a bit jealous of. (not the commune aspect, - but the field and tent waterbirth aspect).
