We will hopefully be moving to Stortford when I am 30 weeks pregnant. If last time is anything to go by I will be spending large amounts of time in or visiting hospital prior to the birth, (last time I was in for 2 weeks and then had to visit for fetal assesment every other day) and then having an elective c-section. I would idealy like to be in an NHS hospital for the medical care, but one with a private wing (cos my health insurance will pay) for the comfort. Does such a thing exist near Stortford?

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I would guess your two nearest hospitals would be Addenbrooks at Cambridge (The Rosie ?) and Princess Alexandra at Harlow. No idea if either has a private wing.

Hi Prufrock

The Rosie (Addenbrooke's Maternity wing) has private rooms. I have no idea whether you can 'book' them though, but I'm sure they'd talk you through the options if you gave them a call.

Good luck - I lived in Stortford for a little while a few years ago and really liked it - I'm sure it will be a good place for kids.

Congratulations on moving to Stortford - it is a great town - especially with regards to schools. I had my DS at the Princess Alexander Hospital in Harlow - they have private rooms but if there is an emergency then the rooms will be given away - i stayed in a private room - but then had to move - i thuoght the rooms were O.K - nothing special but you will get the privacy you need. I think they do visits on Sundays so why not go and have a look at both. Good luck with the move.
