Length of first labour compared to second?

Hi, I was just wondering how long your second labour was compared to your first? Labour with my DD (now 4.5) was 32 hours and I've been told that your second labour tends to be about half as long as your first, but no idea where this statistic came from! What are your experiences?

My first DD was just under 4 hrs from start to finish. I am 33+2 and wondering how this one will go too..............!

it was very intense and fast, went from 5cms to fully very quickly (within an hour of changing to birth room.. born 2hrs after getting to hospital :S!

Good luck! :)

DD1 - 7 hours from start of ARM
DD2 - less than an hour from ringing labour ward about 23 mins from arriving at the hospital - DH did a normal 45min journey in 19mins at 2am.

my second was exactly half the length of my first (6 hours and 3 hours)

DD1: 5.5 hrs from first twinge to birth
DD2: 5hrs after gentle braxton hicks all through the night, so I guess technically longer

DD1: four days
DD2: 1hr 19 mins
Just slightly different!

With both babies , my first clue that I was in labour was my water going. 1st time, 14 hrs from waters releasing to baby being born. Second time, 16 hours, but it was a much gentler and easier labour :)

Both my labours started spontaneously, naturally early (4 weeks early each time)

First labour began at 6am with my waters starting to leak. I drove myself to the hospital as I had an antenatal appt already booked. I was in labour all day and finally had DD1 at 00.22.

18 hours

My next labour began the same way, at 8pm. My waters went in Deep Pan. I had enough time for my OH to whisk us home, to leave my DD with my sister for the night and get me back to the hospital 15 mins away. She was born within the hour.
