Got my Homeopathy Childbirth Kit - what and how much did you use?

My Helios kit arrived today and it suggest that your birth partner reads through the booklet to familiarise themselves with the different remedies. Problem is they all look the same and knowing my dh he will start stressing about what to give me and I am not sure what kind of state I will be in to think about it so I dont want this kit to be a waste of money.

I thought a good idea would be to ask all of you what and how much you used?

Then I will list them then on paper with symptoms for him to read and match up with the right remedy and just leave out certain remedies so he does not have to find them in the box as they all look the same.

Please could you tell me the main remedies you used during labour and post natal and how much? The booklet just tells you to observe and wait to see if anything happens and if not take some more. This seems a bit vague to me. I am worried my dh will be pouring the bottles down my neck

How far apart did you take different or the same remedies.

Thank you

Spidermama · 02/02/2006 23:03

I just used Arnica after the births and Mag.phos. for the after pains.

hornbag · 02/02/2006 23:05

like spidermama I used arnica (well, when I remembered to take it !) after DS and DD

Tommy · 02/02/2006 23:16

I had one of these and during a long labour with DS1 I think we tried them all! Can't tell you whether they did any good but it gave me soemthing to do and talk about. Think they were in my bag for DS2 but didn't have time to get them out!

Spidermama · 02/02/2006 23:38

I think you're right lovecloud. You may well find you're a little pre-occupied to be farting about with homeopathic remedies whilst you're actually in labour.

But certainly arnica's well know for after the birth as it helps process shock and bruising. Mag Phos. is good for after pains (womb contracting back down to walnut size) but you may not get these if this is your first.

Hi, Janet Balaskas has a note on how to use these remedies in labour and how to label them so it is easy for your birth partner to know what to offer you in her notes for the Preparing for labour and birth course notes. I am not sure if I can copy them re copyright etc. Maybe you can contact her and maybe she could send you the relevant page. Active Birth Centre tel. 020 7281 6760 maybe there is also something on www.activebirthcentre.com You can find the same list in her 'Waterbirth book' page 150 (see bookshops).

Good luck

Thank you!

I have heard lots of good stuff about arnica that is why I got the kit - it one of them works the others must.

This is my second child, first time I was too preoccupied with handling it all but this time I hope the labour to be shorter therefore hopefully I am more with it to make use of them.

I remember the afterpains which were quite bad when I breastfed and heard they are worse the second time so I will def use what you suggested.

Do I take the arnica immediately after birth and can I take the Mag. pos too at the same time?

Or how much time should i leave in between?

Thanks

i used caulophyllum to get labour started.i was 10 days over and didnt want a repeat of my first..19 days late!. aconite if you get worried.
i get the shivers at transition tim ein labour and my teeth chatter violently so i took cimifuga/sepia and the midwife was impressed and asked what i`d taken so she could write it down to tell others!! calendula after for stitches as well as arnica and aconite for shock..i only just made it to hospital before she was born!!

lovecloud · 06/02/2006 22:31

Thanks

Sorry for sounding thick but if I had to have stitches, had really bad after pains how much time would i leave between calendula, arnica and anything else?

I used the helios kit during labour for my 2nd in Jan and think it was fab. I was hoping for a home birth but ended up being induced (tried caulophyllum/pulsatilla to no avail). I took arnica every 4 hours throughout & then twice a day for 2 days afterwards Also pulsatilla (for hormone balance for 2 days) - I didn't get much of a baby blues & no afterpains at all! During labour I took remedies for back pain (kali bach/carb?)which really helped and secale to counter the effects of the jab they give you to speed delivery of placenta(forget the name). My recovery was really quick afterwards and at my 10 day visit the mw said she couldn't tell I'd been pg. My homoepath advised to leave 15-30 minutes between each remedy (or repeats) to give them a chance to work but don't repeat unless same symptom/emotional issue is present. Hope you have as positive an experience as I did & that what I've mentioned is some use
