I am 38+3 with DC2. Hoping for a VBAC after an EMCS for DC1 with who I got to 9cm's with.

I have had period cramps for over a week, two lots of plug coming away and last night lots of tight feelings high in my bump. The period like cramps are really painful and often are alongside sharp pains down below.

I have a week to go into labour, otherwise I am booked for a CS. I am so fed up of symptom spotting and being in this 'is it- is it not?' place. I went into labour at 38+4 with DC1.

So someone come along and tell me lie to me that todays the day. Grin

seemedlikeagudideaatthetime · 28/03/2012 11:37

Congrats joy! Needless to say, I'm still here. Had the terrible ripping sort of pain in the cervix area I had at 5am a few days ago earlier, again got very excited but it went very quickly and now feel fine. Baby moving about happily.

TwoPeasOnePod · 28/03/2012 12:12

Hey ladies, I am now officially 'overdue' based on scan dates etc, urgh..Last night had lots of bump tightenings, hip/pelvis pain and cervix pain, was very restless and horribly uncomfortable, but still no dice! The hip pain is really starting to limit my life and piss me off, it's also now in my upper thighs Sad

Hope everyone's doing OK, and huge huge congrats to the poster who's recently had her baby (was it Joy ? sorry my laptop osnt letting me scroll back)

I'm feeling arsey today so will keep this post short and sweet Grin

Hi there

Well had my sweep which wasn't painful at all and which the midwife said she is 'hopeful' will start me off as she was able to get in there and sweep around.

If this doesn't get me going then I'm booked in for an induction on Monday.

I am feeling a bit more upbeat about the induction though as she said the hospital is using a newer drug which is proving really successful at getting second time mums into labour without the need of the syntocin drip which is what I had with DD. Midwife thought it was called pro-pes? Think I will have to google it and find out more!

Flisspaps · 28/03/2012 12:29

Propess? I think it's in the form of a tape (rather than a gel) - some areas use it and let you go home apparently, unlike with the other forms of induction.

Might be worth ringing the ward and asking about it as what Google will tell you won't necessarily be what your hospital policy is.

:)

Flisspaps · 28/03/2012 12:30

Joygirl MASSIVE congratulations :)

feekerry · 28/03/2012 13:45

ye joy so glad to see we've had some baby movement and presume you avoided induction as well by a whisker.

glad your sweep was okay fuckity lets hope for some baby action before anybody's parents arrive lol!

i've had loads more plug/show since this morning so have got walking tho i offically walk slower than a snail and i feel like my bump might pull me over sometimes but still managed a mile none the less. some horrified walkers/onlookers tho. quite funny really seeing the absolute look of horror on their faces as i waddle by!!

seemedlikeagudideaatthetime · 28/03/2012 14:13

aye it's funny how people think you shouldn't do anything when pregnant, even a little walking. if my grandad had had his way I would've been strapped into bed as soon as we got the positive test! Nice in theory, but I would get VERY bored.

Having said that, I'm going for a lie down... yawn Grin

DreamingOfPeace · 28/03/2012 14:34

Hooray joy, a beautiful girl! Well done you :-) Does sound scarily fast at the end, but you did tell her not to mess you about for 36 hours :-)

No word from lemele? Hope her induction went ok.

fuckity, very brave for the mw, well done you. These babies come when they come and if flights are booked, grandparents must know there's a chance of baby not being here from the day of booking!! (That was you wasn't it?! Sorry if not, on phone)

Hi to everyone else! I'm 37 weeks tomorrow, 7 days til ELCS. No sign of these twins putting in an appearance but god I'm sore and vast....

feekerry · 28/03/2012 15:28

dreaming was my parents and fuckitys that are due down i think!!!!
just being nosey as i'm bored and it interests me but what happens when you give birth naturally to twins?? does the second one come straight after the first or can it take hours? have you got to go through the pushing stage all over again from the start or is baby number 2 usually already well on its way out? did you see that twin birth few weeks back on OBEM? i thought she did really well, was very impressed. have you got to be heavily monitored thru labour?? i think its going to be rather amazing actually!!!

DreamingOfPeace · 28/03/2012 19:10

feek, while you can opt out of some of these things, a lot of hospitals recommend an epidural (mine are adamant they want an epidural in), especially if twin 2 is breech- for the James Herriot style reach in and turn baby, like the OBEM woman had- turning part which is meant to be excruciating!! They will deliver a second twin breech anyway if need be if they're not much bigger than twin 1. However they can turn head down after twin 1 born, or worse, go transverse or something leading to emcs. Everywhere wants continuous monitoring. The guidelines are that twin 2 should be delivered within 30 min of twin 1, so its standard to have syntocinon drip up after twin 1 out to get your contractions going again (sometimes your body can go into placenta delivering mode n not twig there's another baby to.come for ages iykwim). As i fancy none of this after a grim induction and third degree tear, I'm having an ELCS as i can't face another highly medical induction. Synto doesnt agree with me!! But i hope to go into labour.... Blinking won't though, 7 days to go...

fuckityfuckfuckfuck · 28/03/2012 19:12

They're not flying, but they are driving for 300 miles! I did warn them of my tendency to go overdue, but they went ahead and booked their hotel. I'll not still be waiting by Saturday, please NOOOOOO.
I am quietly accepting of having another sweep on Friday. Tbh, as long as the midwife is as gentle as the one was today, I have nothing to worry about. I did let her know how scared I was though, I had such a problem relaxing my knees as I was shaking so much that tbh it would be obvious to anyone that I'm not the biggest fan of such things. Have lost some bloody snotty bits since, but nothing else to report. I even did a huge detour bringing dd home from school in an effort to walk this baby out, but no dice.
Dp is finishing work from today as they're not busy and he knows that I'll be in labour by Monday if they get their way anyway. I really don't want to be induced :( The midwife said that they'd do just a pessary first, then break waters. Then if that didn't work, I'd have to go to the CLU for a drip and continuous monitoring. Screw that. I'm not having continuous monitoring after it pretty much confined me to the bed with dd.

feekerry · 28/03/2012 19:31

dreaming I do believe there is a twin birth on obem tonight as well whilst were on the subject! Well for the last 4 hours or so i've had pretty regular braxton hicks. Quite strong too but not painful but they are pretty much every 15 mins exactly. Not that i'm counting or anything! Lol. Will not allow myself to get excited!

DaydreamDolly · 28/03/2012 19:59

Really down today Sad Feel like a failure. Am letting everyone down, everyone wants to know where the baby is and it's really getting me down.
After being adamant I didn't want to be induced again, I am dying to get to Friday morning so I can go in and they can start me off, just to stop the constant texts, phone calls, Facebook messages, neighbours ambushing me every time I leave the house. I just want to SCREAM!!!!

Flisspaps · 28/03/2012 20:53

How on earth are you a failure?

You are nourishing, carrying and growing a person in there. A whole person. That's awesome. That's not letting anyone down.

The only person being let down IMO is you - by people who have seemingly forgotten (albeit in their excitement) that this isn't a parcel waiting to be delivered, and there are no exact timescales to work to. You shouldn't be being made to feel that you can't wait to go in to hospital and undergo medical procedures just to shut people up :(

DaydreamDolly · 28/03/2012 21:34

I know Sad it's so silly but I can't help it. DH being so wonderful and has cheered me up tonight. I've given up thinking I'll go into labour by myself tho. So many signs and symptoms these past 3-4 weeks I feel like I'm going mad.

HardCheese · 29/03/2012 00:49

Flisspaps, you are as ever a fountain of common sense. I'm actually reading some research on post-term stillbirth rates you linked me to a while back (thanks again), as am feeling rather hopeless about seeing consultant in the morning - will be 40 plus 10. What I want is a referral to the foetal welfare unit for monitoring/CTG/ultrasound for amniotic fluid volume, so am trying to bone up on my stats so I can sound well-informed and rational, rather than what I actually feel, which is increasingly guilt-tripped and defensive about not leaping at sweep and induction 'offers'. To the point where I almost burst into tears yesterday when my acupuncturist said something about how well I was doing. Jesus, I get so cross with myself for being wet...

DaydreamDolly · 29/03/2012 03:00

Contractions!!!!! (but OUCH) Been having them on and off since 10pm and now I am having a proper bloody show. Think it's all systems go, finally! 40+13, come on baby let's avoid induction!!!!

MidnightinMoscow · 29/03/2012 03:18

Fantastic Dolly, so exciting. Good luck and soon you'll be hOlding your baby.

Joy - congratulations too! Wonderful news.

MidnightinMoscow · 29/03/2012 04:43

It won't be long now Dolly. Sounds like you are doing really well.

I am checking in on every feed/pump!! Xxxx

DaydreamDolly · 29/03/2012 04:58

Grin thanks for the company! Told DH to stay in bed and get some sleep so am downstairs watching crap American soaps in between contractions. Mainly 7-8 mins apart still, need to wait for DD to wake before I can shower and get ready so hope it doesn't escalate too fast Smile

MidnightinMoscow · 29/03/2012 06:24

HOw are you getting on?

OP posts:
feekerry · 29/03/2012 06:54

Morning. Go dolly go! Hope all has gone well. So pleased for you! I'm 40+11 today. Induction on monday afternoon or tue morning if still no baby which will mean no mlu or water birth. Sigh. Hope we have some baby action somewhere today. Haven't heard from arti for a while?

Flisspaps · 29/03/2012 08:01

Dolly go on woman Grin excellent stuff

HardCheese glad to be of help. I do think this info should be given to all women reaching their induction offer so informed decisions can be made, rather than random people like me dishing it out on the net! Most trusts hand out a basic leaflet on the process of induction in their hospital along with 'we induce at 40+x' but that's it. Sad

Hope your chat today is productive, you never know , the consultant could be more than supportive of expectant management Smile
