but haven't had any real contractions yet. What can i do to speed things up and should i inform the hospital?

Feel a bit in limbo because last time contractions started a few hours after waters went.Is there risk of infection after a certain time?

WOW. I'd let the hospital know. I think the risk of infection is increased once your waters go, but I don't know what the max time they'll let you go to before they induce.

They leave you for 12 hours. My waters broke at 5am with ds and I gave birth at 6.22pm the same day.

I had a birthing ball that really brought the contractions on! Walk up and down stairs, do some gentle exercises, a bit of squatting, etc.

Thanks NDP. Will phone now then to see what they say, really want to get contractions but at the same time i'm starting to remember the pain!!!

Do a few jumps!

mrspitt · 13/01/2006 11:25

That's next on the list!! Hospital say just to go in some time this afternoon and take it from there. If i'm going to hospital tho, no way i'm coming home again without a baby . I'll ask for a good old fashioned tweak!!

wish it were me! MW told me to ring asap when waters go, last time they went and they told me to come in be checked out (nothing was happening) but took a swab to check for infection. Sent me home and told to come back in 48 hours for induction, I was back in 2 hours to have the baby.

Good luck!

SK it'll be you tomorrow I promise!
Good luck Mrspitt {{Hugs}} hope its a quick one!

With mine I had to stay in hospital from the time my waters broke because DS hadn't engaged and that made us high risk (there's a risk of cord prolapse if the waters go before the baby has dropped properly). This included overnight on my own without DH (I wasn't in "established labour" at that point (although it darn well felt like it) so partners couldn't stay overnight). I would so much rather have been able to go home (which as pp have said you normally can).

They'll want to give you an antibiotic drip if there's still no baby 24 hours after your waters went (and another one at some point after that -- it might be another 12 hours, I think), and they may be more "aggressive" about encouraging/augmenting labour if it's not progressing quickly.
