I love watching them, but not sure I'd want to be filmed in labour... if they could cut from early labour to me looking radiant in a bed cuddling a baby, then I might

I think Rhubarb was.

I have wondered this too lucy. I also wonder about the parents who go on Carrie and Justines program "mums the word"

i'm most interested to see if anyone has been on portland babies, want to know why that nice midwife who was in series 1, is not in series 2, think she was called fiona.

I would like to know if anyones been on "babes in the wood" hythe birthing centre was where I went with dd2 after she was born in hospital. The Midwife shona was my midwife for both pregnancies and she's fab but it's freaky seeing her on telly.

I know two people who have. One was back in 2001 for Birth Day Girls and the other was 2004 for Home Birth Diaries.

The camerawoman/producer of Homebirth Diaries is a qualified midwife and apparently very good and discrete.

I could have been! When I was pregnant with ds2 a woman was making a documentary for Granada TV about Macclesfield Maternity Unit. She was following several woman in the last weeks before their baby's birth, right up to the birth in the hospital and afterwards. I can't remember what the programme was called now but it was a 6 part series I think. I said no (and in the end ds2 was early so I wouldn't have fit her criteria) but Macclesfield is a small town and I see a few of the women who were on the programme out and about with their (now) 4 year olds. I have a little smile to myself and think "I saw you with your legs akimbo, panting and red faced." Which is exactly why I would never have done it

I find those programmes riveting though - and very moving - I do think it takes a special sort of person to agree to share that incredibly intimate time with the world at large.

Ah, that makes a lot of sense, then, julienetmum - I always thought they were sensitively produced.

my friend had triplets and she was filmed throughout the pg and labour - I ended up on it just because her firstborn was having a party and they interviewed me ( after a couple of glasses of champagne!) I have never seen myslef and never will but it is on tv ( living or discovery or something) ALL THE TIME!
People are constantly asking me if thats my triplet friend - sadly she does not get royalties!

I haven't but I would do the homebirth diaries one if I could.

This is because for my first my dp insisted he didn't need a flash, so as a result the only record we have of the day is a very dark grainy photo of me, nothing of the baby or the midwife, or us all together as a new family.
Well, nothing apart from the (now deleted) 20/30 minute video, from behind, of me delivering the placenta standing up in the birth pool, complete with quivering fat arse, nipple twiddling and then 'plop!' out it came. (He left it running when he put it down).

I don't think I can rely on him next time, and the fact I have no record could eat me up with annoyance if I let myself think about it too much - like now - so I'd welcome the chance to get someone sensitive to do a proper job.
