just been to see the midwife who gave me the impression that my third baby is going to shoot out at 5omph. Had visions of being torn in half. Anyone had this experience?

yep, no3 was 4 hours. Compared to 44 hours with ds2.....

popsycalindisguise · 05/01/2006 20:12

oh gosh - another reason not to have a third......
my second was about an hour or so from start to finish

crazydazy · 05/01/2006 20:30

My first was 1 hour start to finish and my second I was induced and took 8 hours so would be uncertain which way it would go if I were to have a third.

With the first she was 5 weeks premature and my waters had broke on the Saturday and had her on the Thursday. Was told I was in "slow labour" but didn't get any kind of pain until Thursday morning and they were just crampy. At 2.00 was given an internal had a show straight after and about an hour later the bad contractions started. She was born at 4.10pm.

joanna4 · 05/01/2006 21:54

I was induced both times and wasnt really progressing in fact was only 15 mins before they were born that i knew for sure something was happening. My dh delivered dd as midwife had gone for a brew proclaiming i would be -ages yet!

Milliways · 05/01/2006 22:09

My second arrived in 1.5hours - only just got to hospital.

My neighbours second was quick, and her third actually FELL OUT - hit the carpet

She was very upset & worried, but no harm done! Just a mess to clear up

suedonim · 05/01/2006 22:11

No1 - 20+hrs
No2(induced) - 4hrs
No3(induced) - 9hrs
No4 - 10hrs.

I was told that no3 would likely arrive in the hospital car park so I was somewhat disappointed at 9hrs, I must say!

Mirage · 05/01/2006 22:29

my 1st was 4 hours.
2nd 1.5 hours.
Was told that if I have another baby, not to even attempt getting to hospital.

deaddennis · 05/01/2006 22:36

dd1 - 5 hrs
ds1 - 3 hrs
dd2 - cs
ds2 - bloody for ever

Gillian76 · 05/01/2006 22:49

DD1 - 12 hours
DD2 - 6 hours
DS - 6 hours

All OP, so not too bad times

PrincessPeaHead · 05/01/2006 22:53

1st about 11 hours from induction (ARM)
2nd about 8 hours from induction working (pessary)
3rd at home 3.5 hours from first twinge, 10 mins after midwife appeared.
4th at home in a few weeks hopefully - will let you know!

SpikeMomma · 07/01/2006 17:05

2hrs 20mins with first baby. the lord alone knows what will happen with a second! think i'll sit crossed legged and cover the house in plastic from 8 months onwards

Coathanger · 07/01/2006 17:11

DS1 - 9 hours
DS2 - 6 hours
DS3 - 39 mins - was very quick and I was in shock after. And unfortunately I did tear very badly as he shot out like a bullet from a gun!! He didn't turn to face the side after his head was born so his shoulders came out width ways! ouch!! But I had no idea this was going to happen and I can't see how the MW you saw, Yummymummy, can tell how quick your labour is going to be. Did she give a reason why she thinks this?

Yummymummy24 · 07/01/2006 20:10

well mw didnt exactly say it was goin to shoot out she just gave me that impression like saying the third is usually very quick. I actually hope it is now as it sounds quite fun lol. I've not had any stitches yet and a fast delivery can result in stitches if my book is anything to go off. I suppose no one can tell anything for sure i'm just trying to get an idea of what might happen.

ist 7 hours
2nd 5 hours
3rd went into labour at 8.30pm constant contractions, just had time for dh to call ambulance they came up stairs to get me to ambulance. dd head can down as i started to walk down stairs, ambulance man lifted me to the bottom , one push and she was born at bottom of stairs. 20 mins from start to finish. just be prepared, all i would say is don't worry too much i knew i wasn't going to make it to the hospital, so hopefully you will know one way or the other, time your contractions from the onset. good luck

NotAcow · 07/01/2006 23:13

havnt read whole thread - sorry

first, about 5 hours from first twinge to birth
second, 87 minutes for same
third due this month...

am planning a home birth as figure it could be out in about 5 minutes!!

if its any comfort, yummymummy, second birth, although intense (the phrase 'bullet from a gun' comes to mind) wasnt bad in terms of pain or tearing or recovery time etc. no pain relief except water (no bloody time even if i wanted it! which i didnt), no tearing, and up and about the next day so...

actually think i would go to pieces with a long drawn out labour, but i guess i'll never know for sure, huh

Yummymummy24 · 07/01/2006 23:50

oh hello again notacow! Just wrote you on sis from hell thread! Wow didnt know you were due, let me know what happens are you having a home delivery?

OP posts:
NotAcow · 08/01/2006 11:35

yeah, home birth planned. really looking forward to it... got the birth pool all set up and filled, just trying to pass the time till it comes.
tick tock tick tock

boring, waiting isnt it? im an emotional wreck at the moment too - blaming the hormones and the SPD, which isnt as bad as some people have i've read about on here have got, so i'm not complaining about that too bitterly.

hows the little boy doing? i think peoples advice on the other thread is well meaning and to be considered closely, but dont feel pressured either. i think you have very good instincts as a mum and you should follow them. tell me the name of the school/headteacher and i'll go and terrify HER till she wets herself if you like - wont tell her why . that should teach her a thing or two.

(before i get chastised for that, i know it wont actually teach her bugger all, but it would be fun )

TuttiFrutti · 08/01/2006 13:58

My cousin had her 2nd baby last year in the space of about 15 minutes from start to finish! He was born on the back seat of the car. She was 3 weeks early so not expecting it, and had been eating dinner in a Chinese restaurant with her husband, when she got indigestion (or so she thought) and told him they should go home. After 5 minutes she realised what was happening and her dh turned the car round to go towards the hospital, but they never made it. Dh says he heard a "clunk" from the back of the car, which was the baby falling onto the floor!

Her first baby took about half an hour, so maybe the speed of delivery shouldn't have been a great surprise, but even so...

NotAcow · 08/01/2006 14:08

bloody hell!

thought ds2 was fast! was worried he might come out in the car too, but made it thanks to time of day/no traffic

better not stray far from home till this one pops out then... who ami kidding? have hardly left the house in weeks anyway due to SPD [pathetic emoticon]

Yummymummy24 · 09/01/2006 20:07

Poor you i've got sacro illiac dysfunction, similar sort of thing to spd i think so i totally know what you mean. I'm sort of just watching at school for furthur developments in silent hatred. It was a few weeks ago now but im still bitter about it all. I actually wanted to stab her but after a while i calmed down and sort of thought maybe he is insecure like she said. She did say she didnt shout that badly but as i wasnt there i dont know if she was lying or not.

P.S How many days till due date?

OP posts:
bubblepop · 10/01/2006 13:49

my third took the longest, about 5 hours from start to finish. still i only just got to the hospital in time, didn't recognise it as labour after two previous inductions! good luck

wilbur · 10/01/2006 14:02

Well, my third went from niggle to placenta in just under 3.5 hrs which was quite fast enough for me. Previous two labours were reasonably paced so body clearly knew what it was doing third time round. Good luck!

NotAcow · 10/01/2006 16:27

hi yummy - sacro illiac dysfunction doesnt sound like fun - no idea what it is, but hope youre not too bad with it and that it goes away soon.

and stupid teacher. if he is insecure then she ought to bear that in mind in dealing with him, rather than terrifying the poor little thing [scowl] and certainly not blaming you FGS, sounds like you are his one reliable refuge from scary grown ups! arent lots of peeple insecure when theyre 5 anyway?? part of being 5, i'd have thought. anyway, like i say, your instincts are prob best guide to what to do so i wont bore you with my point of view

due date is 23rd. am now 38+1 and counting

sooooooo emotional too! poor rest of my family (hehe)
