just been to see the midwife who gave me the impression that my third baby is going to shoot out at 5omph. Had visions of being torn in half. Anyone had this experience?

based on ? I really don't think they can tell unless you have a history of it. My friend had her 3rd within about 4 hours of any niggle. She went to a parent/teacher evening at 5pm and had had her dd in the hospital by 9 whilst her dh parked the car !

Potty1 · 05/01/2006 16:26

My third came pretty quickly I have to say

Labours were ds1 14 hours, ds2 7 hours (lovely) and dd about 1 1/2. The 1 1/2 wouldn't have been so bad except I had about an hour and a quarter of sort of 'am I aren't I' followed by a 15 minute dash to the hospital and nearly delivered in the lift. I wish someone had told me this one might be fast. Forwarned is forearmed

yoyo · 05/01/2006 16:30

Third was just under 1.5 hours from first contraction to delivery. First was 25 hours and second was about 5 hours.

Felt totally in control with third despite the speed of his arrival.

Spidermama · 05/01/2006 16:35

Gosh Yoyo! That was quick then. Was it very intense?

Mine were as follows ..

1st - 7 hours.
2nd - 48 hours.
3rd - 4 hours. (Easiest of all. 'Slipped' out)
4th - 5 hours.

PeachyClair · 05/01/2006 16:50

My mum was in labour 30 minutes with me! She was got to hospital, was told of or not being really in labour, MW went to ask for advice (mum didnt want to go home), I was born whilst mw doing that. None of her labours over 90 minutes.

yoyo · 05/01/2006 16:50

Spidermama - yes, I suppose it was but there was no sense of panic or anything. I rocked and breathed through the contractions and swore at DH a lot as he whizzed around roundabouts on the way to the hospital. Thought I wouldn't make it but did. It was a wonderful experience.

tortoiseshell · 05/01/2006 16:52

Hmmm, am very interested in this thread - am pg with no.3 - labours 1 and 2 were 10 hours and 3 1/2 hours so am anticipating could be fast!

tortoiseshell · 05/01/2006 16:52

(Should clarify, no2 was 3 1/2 hours from first twinge to baby.....)

yoyo · 05/01/2006 16:55

Tortoiseshell - be prepared not to get to hospital if that is what you were hoping to do. Having a show, waters going and huge contractions does make you wonder why you didn't have a waterproof sheet somewhere!

tortoiseshell · 05/01/2006 16:56

Having a homebirth!!! No2 was at home, 30 minutes after mw arrived (planned homebirth btw!), so am going to train dh in art of delivery just in case of traffic....

InternationalGirl · 05/01/2006 17:01

My first was 11 hrs, 2nd was 6 hrs so I think I better be prepared for a quick one too.

Yummymummy24 · 05/01/2006 18:20

mine were 3 days/
10hours, so maybe i'm looking at 4hrs or less from what u all said thanks girls. i hope it is a huge dash to hospital how funny it'd be like er or something lol

Enid · 05/01/2006 18:22

my first two were dd1 8 hours including 3 hours of pushing only to find she was OP
dd2 woke up with first contractions at 2.15am, she was born at 4.15am, so 2 hours.

dread to think how quick dd3/ds is going to be

TeddyRobinson · 05/01/2006 18:22

Ds1 was induced so difficult to say time but that was about 8 hrs

Ds2 - I woke at 4am, went to hospital at 9 not sure if I was in labour or not as not in that much pain but could feel pressure. He was born 30 minutes later after about 2 minutes of horrific pain.

Ds3 - woke at 2.15am, born at 4.45 am so 2.5 hours start to finish (although I niggled and felt horrible for a week before)

TeddyRobinson · 05/01/2006 18:23

Ooh Enid - spooky on your dd2 and my ds3!!

Cadmum · 05/01/2006 18:34

Guess our third was almost slow by comparison. Woken after 2am with waters going and DS2 was born after 2 pushes at 6:30 am. Have to say that I was very pleased to have a scheduled home-birth as I was not convinced that I was in labour until about 5 am...

DS1 was induced and it took 2 1/2 days of torture.

DD was 6 hours from flash to bang. Relatively painless labour compared with previous induction.

Number 4 due in 9 weeks so I wonder how that will all go...

Yummymummy24 · 05/01/2006 18:37

i was induced too with 1st so i guess it doesnt count.... let me know cadmum i am goin to try for homebirth i think if i can convince dp!!!! hes such a wimp

Rach69 · 05/01/2006 18:54

My ds1 was about12-15 hrs
ds2 was about 8-10 hrs

dd was going to be about 4hrs but had to be slowed down as she was face first (maybe 6hrs?) I did however dilate to 5 cm really quickly (less than an hour) Absolutely wasn't torn in half (unlike other two) because I was really well managed (and despite epidural could actually feel to push and know what I was doing)

Ds3 due now, so lets see!

Miaou · 05/01/2006 19:17

I was really worried my third would be very fast, the worry was because I was potentially over an hour from the hospital if I went into labour at night (slightly complicated where I live), but in fact I was four hours from start to finish so I had plenty of time. The next one might be interesting though...

Yummymummy24 · 05/01/2006 19:18

miaou what times were the other two?

OP posts:
Miaou · 05/01/2006 19:23

16 hours then 8 hours. I had epidurals with those which I think slowed my labours down a lot (I reckoned I would have had dd1 in 10 hours and dd2 in about four if I hadn't), so I was expecting ds to be faster than four hours. I had a waterbirth and it was lovely, very calm.

Yummymummy24 · 05/01/2006 19:27

i would love a waterbirth tihs time it was broken last time but i had lots of roasting baths and didnt need pain relief for 6hrs of it except codeine but you cant really count them. Does a shower work? i have no bath in my house god only knows why!!! I'd like a home birth but i need water magic.

OP posts:
fennel · 05/01/2006 19:32

1st: 12 hours then ventouse
2nd: 25 hours from first regular contractions. 10 hours of serious labour
3rd: 5 hours. the second stage was fast with her though. home birth before second midwife could arrive.

poppiesinaline · 05/01/2006 19:34

1st 13 hours
2nd 9 hours
3rd (midwife too said that this one would be quick) and she was right 1 1/2 hours. Very quick and very intense.

Yummymummy24 · 05/01/2006 19:52

wow threes do seem to whoosh out then. Hilarious my dp is goin to die of fright if i have a home birth by accident.
