Poll: Did you have the same gender baby on second birth to first?

Hi MNer's,

I'm currently expecting DC2 and wanted to conduct a quick poll on likelihood of having same sex child for DC2 as DC1. Of all my friends/child's friends, everyone I know seems to have had the same sex child for first and second births!

anyone know if there are any stats on this?

what has been your experience? what did you have first and second time?

From a boy, girl, boy, girl family and had girl then boy.

My mum's mum had girl, boy, girl, boy, girl.

3DDs here (well, one due in a few weeks)

I'm one of two girls, DP 1 boy and 2 girls.

My Mum is one of 4 girls, my Dad one of 12 who are half boys half girls!

I was about to say that I think its pretty random with your second child but in my experience of families of 4 or more, if the sex hasn't changed by the 3rd child then it won't change until the 5th. But Beyond's random friend has blown that theory out of the water. Out of the people I know who have 4 or more and it's been 3 girls (or 3 boys) and they have gone for a 4th it's been another girl (or boys if they already have boys) and then they got a change on the 5th child.

me: ds8, ds5, pg with a possible dd (but conceived "her" at an impossable time in my cycle so if not mentioned before in this thread timing of conception can affect gender, apparently)

Gosh I feel like an actually living experiment!!

Dd then ds, 2 yrs 8 months apart (cute pix on profile).

Every summer we go camping for a weekend with a group of old friends from Uni and it suddenly struck me this year that there are five couples within this group who have children, and we all have 1 girl, 1 boy.

Had my 20w scan today, DC2 is in fact DS2, 18 months between them...

DS then DD - 15 months apart.
