Hi MNer's,

I'm currently expecting DC2 and wanted to conduct a quick poll on likelihood of having same sex child for DC2 as DC1. Of all my friends/child's friends, everyone I know seems to have had the same sex child for first and second births!

anyone know if there are any stats on this?

what has been your experience? what did you have first and second time?

Yes, there are stats on this. I did a mini research project on it once. Can't remember that much about it but I know that the US site ingender has a stats page on there.

Put simply, there are 51 boy born to every 49 girls so you have a slightly higher chance of having a boy than a girl, altrhough the odds are pretty close to 50/50.

I think, if you've had two girls your chance of having a girl next time are around 57% (ish, don't quote me!) I assume this is because if youve already 'beaten the odds' to have two girls you're more likely to do it again, or something.

Oh, I can't quite remember, but I know that website has a lot of stuff on this. Although a lot of MNers frown on it so please don't shoot me for mentioning it!

I have 2 dd's, in answer to your question!

2 girls here. I know a lot more people with 2 the same than one of each.

SIL has 4 girls ... Our family just doesn't do boys Grin (well apart from DH I suppose, though he is rather girly...)

Not having anymore. I'm 40 now but I'd bet it would be another DD.

3 dds for me

Everyone I know who had a 3rd child after 2 dds had another dd

Everyone I know who had a 3rd child after 2dss had a dd

However anyone I know who's had a 4th after 3 dds has finally had a ds (not that I'm willing to be the guinea pig for that experiment!!!)

It is roughly 51:49 in favour of boys but if you have lots of one or the other you can find that hard to believe. I really was shocked when dd was a girl!

ninamag · 11/11/2011 01:09

4dds

MmeBucket · 11/11/2011 01:15

One of each, DS being the oldest.

SacreLao · 11/11/2011 02:08

It never ceases to amaze me how many people comment on how clever we have been as if we had some kind of control over it all...

BikeRunSki · 11/11/2011 08:51

My sister and I both had a DS then DD. Neither of us is going to find out what we would have next!

If NicolaMumofThree is about, she's an example of bucking the trend - 3 boys, then a girl!

kateyfer · 11/11/2011 09:01

really interesting reading!

I'm carrying in the same way so far, so think I'm having another girl. will try and find out at the 20 week scan so have time to prepare DD1 for a brother or sister.
