Poll: Did you have the same gender baby on second birth to first?

Hi MNer's,

I'm currently expecting DC2 and wanted to conduct a quick poll on likelihood of having same sex child for DC2 as DC1. Of all my friends/child's friends, everyone I know seems to have had the same sex child for first and second births!

anyone know if there are any stats on this?

what has been your experience? what did you have first and second time?

Two boys here.

I think that if you have a boy first, it is more likely that you will have another one by a tiny margin. I think the reverse is true for girls. We are talking 1 or 2% though.

Have a look at this if it doesn't do your head in!

The last box sort of supports what I said in my last post.

Not quite schobe. About 49-51. There are more boys born generally, as they are less likely to make it adulthood by a tiny margin.

Girl, Girl, Boy here, though only one has made it to childhood.

ASuitableGirl · 10/11/2011 14:29

Boy then girl.

schobe · 10/11/2011 14:36

MsScarlett, yes slightly more boys, but closer to 50/50 than 49/51.

"In an extensive study, carried out around 2005, of sex ratio at birth in the United States from 1940 over 62 years, statistical evidence suggested the following: For mothers having their first baby, the total sex ratio at birth [boys/girls] was 1.06 overall, with some years at 1.07. For mothers having babies after the first, this ratio consistently decreased with each additional baby from 1.06 towards 1.03."

That was in the US to be fair but I'm sure it's similar here. Certainly so close to 50/50 to make a poll like this a bit pointless.

However, I do know that it's just for fun, to pass the time, blah de blah. Must be in a bah humbug mood.

I thought that I'd read somewhere that after 2 of one sex you were statistically something like 66% more likely to have another of the same sex

OvenThatCookedManyBuns · 10/11/2011 14:50

Not sure how many people would agree with me but pregnancies for my 2DDs were very similar.Pregnancies for DSs were different to the DD but the same for each DS IYSWIM?

It never deviates much from 50/50 odds. I have one of each though, in the spirit of joining in.
