signs labour is near

Hi,

Ive been wondering what people think are signs that labour is near?

Im 39 weeks today with DC3. I know as its my third I should know by now, but Im probably just wishful thinking here.

I have dropped a lot over the last couple of weeks. Ive had quite a bit of discharge over the last week or so, mainly been white. Today I have had period type cramps on and off in my lower belly and back, but these havent caused me any problems and Ive been acting as normal today (infact Ive not even said anything to DH - dont want to get him excited for no reason). Thats it, no mucus show, no nesting, no diarreah (sorry cant spell it) in fact more like constipation. I constantly feel like baby is pushing down on my bones and it hurst my pelvic bones when I stand up.

Part of me beleives that I am wishfull thinking in that labour may start in the next day or two, but part of me thinks there may actually be something there.

What do we think? Thanks

Hi this really does sound like my pre labour with ds3. 4 times I thought I'd started over a week and then it stopped. Got sweep Monday pm(midwife took pity as was only my due date and I was 2-3cm). Had sex with dh on Tuesday am (not nice but tends to work I have found) and then felt like fanjo was going to fall out all morning. Bad contractions by noon, hospital by 1pm and he was out by 4pm. Home for putting others to bed and washing up by 8pm. Waiting on ds4 now. Dreading the pre labour week again

Congratulations nannyl

I'm still pregnant sigh!!

Seeing my midwife on Sunday for a sweep. I'm not due until Sunday but my dss were born by now, I've been expecting to go into labour since 38 weeks.

MumToSophie · 17/09/2011 10:58

How is everyone feeling today?

I went in for a sweep last night. I'd been getting slight period pains before then and pretty much straight after the sweep the pains came on pretty strong. She said I was already 2-3cm dilated and to go for a walk. I really started to get my hopes up thinking it would work but after about 4am I fell asleep and now I only have slight period aches again :(

I'm going to go for a walk again and hope something happens. Can't believe I'm 40+6 now, this baby does not want to leave!!

Im feeling poo today, but thats for other reasons and a whole different thread.

I had a sweep yesterday aft, but was only 1cm. Got another booked for Tues. Ive had some period type cramps last night, but nothing overly exciting. Nothing today, no bleeding either.

Been for a walk this morning, but had to take my 6YO with me so didnt walk as fast as I would have liked. Going to do some ironing in a bit and do a few things to keep active, prob wont work, but it doesnt hurt does it.

Hope you get somewhere soon, at least you'll be close to getting induced if need be. I should be getting done a week on Thurs (29th) if nothing happens before. Seems ages away, but it will soon come round.

still no baby here...
Period aches are becoming less regular but more intense, so don't know what that means. have midwife app on weds which is my due date and they will offer me a sweep i think.
Couldn't sleep last night until about 2am, and dd woke up at 6.30...and has had a day of multiple tantrums which has been quite trying.
Dd was born on her due date, so as i am 39 +4 now i kind of hoped things would be moving along by now.
Hope we all get some good proper contractions soon!

BackwardsInHighHeels · 17/09/2011 23:41

Still here. Still pregnant. Still having mega BH and sleeping almost 18 hours a day.

No show, no waters, nothing so exciting.

I have had weird clicking noises coming from my bump 3 or 4 times now. Has anyone else had this?

Really hope we all get some proper happenings soon?

notveryinventive · 18/09/2011 17:23

Well Im still waiting. Feels like its been ages since I first started having pre-labour symptoms.

Not feeling too well today, but my lovely 3YO has given me a cold that she picked up at school :(

Yesterday afternoon I think I started to lose my plug slowly. I first noticed when I went to the toilet that the tissue was a bit gloopy, Ive got a pad in my pant and there has been a bit of discharge, but as its been soaked up I cant decide if its the same as Ive been having for the past 2 weeks or so or if it is my plug coming away slowly. (sorry TMI) Ive had the odd couple of pains, but nothing too exciting and its just been the same since last weekend so Im here for a while I should think.

Got my S+S on Tues morning so hoping this does something this time. Esp since DH wants to watch football on Tues night so hopefully sods law will come into effect (for him anyway).

Good luck everybody, hope we all get some more positive signs soon.

Still pregnant too!

Due date today, I went for a sweep this morning but cervix was closed.

MumToSophie · 18/09/2011 20:41

I'm still waiting too, I've had a few little cramps today but nothing much. I've lost my plug though (sorry if that's a bit TMI) so kind of hoping something will happen soon.

I have the midwife again on Tuesday so I'll have to get another sweep and I guess I'll be given a date for my induction (hoping it doesn't come to that though)

Good luck everyone :)

notveryinventive · 20/09/2011 13:01

well Ive had my second sweep this morning and put it this way Im not holding my breath. My midwife said my cervix was still quite long, but I was soft and I was 1-2CMs dilated. After trying to find out what this could mean i think that it could be worse, but its nothing to get excited about. Ive got the impression that a sweep will only really work if you're at least 2CM's dilated and as im not. Also with the cervix being long isnt a good sign, though she said it was 2CM's, I did read somewhere that towards the end of the 2nd Trimester and the beginning of the 3rd it is 3-3.5CM's so at least its shortening a bit. Plus she made me an appointment for monday, but I didnt get the impression that she was making it just in case and i probably wouldnt make it, but that she rather I didnt make it, but I am more likely to get there.

Although good points is that I am in and out of lots of pain esp in my lower back, but Ive had this before. just feels a lot stronger right now, but I am putting that down to the effects of the sweep.

It really is one of those days today cos not only am I no closer to knowing if baby is coming, but also we have just found out that actually we dont have any childcare when Im in labour :( My MIL was supposed to be coming to ours, but she has just basically said that she wants the DC's (age 6 and 3) at hers instead. I dont know how they are supposed to get there or get home after. We have put money aside to pay for a taxi for her, but she wont come here, wish she had said earlier. My parents are in France and we have no-one else so Im feeling very down right now. Ive had friends already offering to come to hospital with me, but Im feeling thats not very fair on DH cos he wont be there for the birth of his last child, though its looking likely he wont be there anyway. So feeling really crap right now and think im just going to go to bed and hope tomorrow is nicer to me.

Oh notvery that's rubbish about your MIL, why did she wait til now to let you know? I understand your worries, I am 38+6 with DC2 and all my family live in UK whilst I am in HK so also no childcare for my 2.5 yr old. Some friends have half heartedly agreed to help but I know that if it happens at night chances are I'll be off on an hour's public transport journey to hospital on my own!! Its a stress you could do without at this stage I know Sad, I am losing sleep over it.

On the plus side maybe your down mood could be a sign of impending labour?

I feel very much more pre-labour-ish with this one than I did with DC1 and it is not pleasant, makes you feel very done with pregnancy indeed. My mum arrives from UK on Sunday though so I hope this one hangs on til then, so no walking/pineapple/sex/curry for me til then.

Oh, and my 2 yr old has also given me her cold so I feel for you there too. Nevermind breathing through the pain I wouldn't be able to breathe at all if I went into labour nowGrin

Hope you soon have your lovely baby at home with you and all this is a distant memory.

MumToSophie · 20/09/2011 14:31

My baby girl is finally here :) I was happily watching the X Factor that I'd recorded when I felt a funny feeling at the bottom of my bump (like a pop, but it wasn't my waters breaking so I'm still not sure what it was tbh) straight away I started getting strong pains and after less than an hour I went in to the hopsital. This was at about 11pm Sunday night and I had her at 01.42 Monday morning. She weighs 6lb 12oz and doesn't have a name yet, poor thing!!

Good luck everyone, really hope you get your babies soon.

Congratulations MumToSophie!

nannyl · 21/09/2011 09:46

congrats mum to sophie

notveryinventive · 21/09/2011 13:15

yey mumtosophie. Grin

Well Ive had some new developments to. My waters broke this morning :) so not long now. Im not in labour as yet, but im still getting my pains though they are not regular and not very strong at all.

Last night I had a really good sleep and woke up feeling really relaxed, then this morning as soon as I stood up: gush. That was the start of my waters breaking. Ive been to hosp to get checked out and it was definately my waters and everything is fine so now its a case of waiting for labour. Ive got to ring up in the morning if there is no action before to go in to be induced.

Im half and half what I want. If I went in tomorrow childcare is easy, but when we went to pick up DD from MILs she asked what next so we said if labour hasnt started by the morning Ive got to ring them up. So she said well let me know. DH told her that I might go into labour before to which she replied "oh I hope not". I think she'd rather I didnt so she didnt have to come to ours. Then again its better for me to go into natural labour so i dont know whats best. The good thing is that DS's school have said that its ok if he's not there and we can pick him up whenever if we need to should I be in labour. So if I dont go into labour we can get up in the morning take DC's to MILs and go to hosp. DH can always leave if needs be. BUT its better for baby and me if I go into labour natural. Well we shall see, will keep you posted.

Signs of labor or ill?

I'm 37+2 (first baby) and my body is suddenly feeling really different! Been having what my midwife is calling 'bad braxton Hicks' for 2 weeks now but over yesterday and today they've been a little more intense and actually hurting rather than just being uncomfortable. (Although not getting any worse or closer together). Also had period like cramps come on yesterday in my lower stomach and back and still have them this morning. Never really been one to have much discharge but again yesterday and today it has increased. Also had bad diarrhoea (sorry TMI) last night and thought it meant something would happen during the night.
However I've just woken up with all those same symptoms but suddenly feeling not myself and so exhausted, have no energy to do anything and have actually had to come back to bed! Feeling very uncomfortable and feel like baby is really pushing low down. (Also been getting stabbing type pain in my vagina...)

Someone please tell me if this is similar to what they experienced before labor or am I just getting ill? Because something is definitely off!

Thanks I'm advance x
