so I can try and make mine break Grin Wink

Just wondered if there was a 'common' time or place...

Mine broke into a trickle after a sweep with dc1, I'm due my second on Saturday and wish they would break themselves this time, I want a big gush and then contractions... Tonight please :)

DS1 - woke up when I felt the pop and a huge gush. Labour kicked in straight away after that
DS2 - they broke in the triage room at the hospital. They'd been taking their sweet time getting me to the labour ward, but I was hurried to the birth pool when they went. DS born less than an hour later.

bruffin · 31/08/2011 03:22

Ds induced after 6 week stay in hospital and 2 days of inducing. It was just a trickle.

DD at 37 weeks I again had a gradual trickle but she was born 4 hours later.

When I was in hospital before Ds was born, I heard a big pop as another ladies in the bed at the room waters went.

Was in the bath due to contractions and lifted my foot up to turn on the hot water and heard a pop then saw the water wasn't as clear as before.

Whilst dh was helping me to get dressed I was sat on the edge of the bed, luckily on a towel and gush the rest came out Shock

Am also thinking dry, non-pushing thoughts to get to sept Wink

nunnie · 31/08/2011 07:45

Delivery room pushing for my 1st.
2nd was broken by midwife because wasn't going during pushing, but that was because DS was brow and got to a point and never moved down so hence my waters remaining in tact.

Xavielli · 31/08/2011 08:06

DC1 - Pushing
DC2 - Eating a McDonalds chocolate muffin
DC3 - ARM.

Mine broke in bed (in an expensive holiday cottage) on the morning of my BIL's wedding.

DD had already tried to come on poor BIL's stag weekend.

She seems to like him better now she's born Grin

sheeplikessleep · 31/08/2011 08:57

DS1 - just sat down to watch big England Rugby match with DH, I was sat on the living room floor wrapping up a birthday present, when it felt like I'd wee'ed myself Blush DH had just poured himself a bottle of beer, he'll never let me forget that. 3 weeks early, I didn't have my bag packed. Cue me shouting 'maternity pads', 'nappies', 'nipple cream' as DH ran around the house packing it all up. If only I'd actually thought there is no rush!

DS2 - lying in bed, 10pm at night. Naively thought, well last time took nearly 30 hours, so I'll try to get some sleep. An hour later, full on contractions and going into hospital.

wobblytoothfairy · 31/08/2011 09:23

Dd- I'd just got out of bed to go to the toilet and they gushed onto the floor just in front of the toilet Hmm. Then another huge gush on the doorstep just as I'd got back from being checked at the hospital. It soaked my trousers and was running down my legs, it was rush hour and we live on a main road Blush

Ds- also as I got out of bed to go to the toilet. Contractions started about 1 hr later and he was born 1 hr after 1st contraction

charl2503 · 31/08/2011 09:39

I was paying for my quarter pounder with cheese meal and mcflurry when mine broke. I got my meal for free though :) DS was born 50 mins later

EMS23 · 31/08/2011 12:23

Mine went at 4pm when I was 38 weeks. I'd swum 3 times that week after not swimming at all all pregnancy and I had just arrived home from choosing a new front gate and lifting it in to the car. I'm convinced the swimming and lifting that gate are what made my waters go.

As it was also my stepsons birthday the next day I tried to keep it from my DH as we really didn't want DD to come on DSS's birthday. He soon noticed the spreading wet patch on my jeans and look of utter panic on my face!

She arrived at 15.23pm the next day. Her brothers absolute bestest birthday present according to him!

Whilst posting on MN. :o

A day before my due date I'd been outside sanding down a blanket box, came in for a rest and to catch up on the ante-natal thread. Leant back on my chair and the back snapped off it. (It was a rubbish chair, I wasn't that heavy.)
I managed to stop myself from falling completely but I ruptured my waters. I didn't realise though. I just had a very very slow trickle which I put down to my pelvic floor muscle giving up completely.
I was in agony with back pain and could barely move. I have a bad back anyway so I thought it was all that.

I did begin to wonder if it was maybe my waters, but they were clear and didn't smell and LO was still moving lots so thanks to MN knew all was okay.

2 days later at 4:30 in the morning the contractions started, I phoned the hospital, they told me to go straight in and DD was born at midday.

The midwives weren't convinced my waters had gone either though, so they tried to break them and DD had 4 small scratches on her head.

bilblio · 31/08/2011 12:38

Oh, I wouldn't recommend my method! :o

candr · 31/08/2011 12:38

I was given some clary sage and have been told NOT to open it until 2 days before EDD and apparently baby should arrive on due date. Have been advised to dilute with veg oil and massage and to put drops in bath so look forward to trying that if baby does not appear before then. Would also like to wait for Sep baby due to school year but have MIL going on holiday a couple of days before due date and my parents a couple of days after so they are giving me a very tight window if they want to see him asap. Have got dry night sheet on bed and waterproof rug on sofa - hope I am a tidy on the loo water breaker though.

MrsRhettButler · 31/08/2011 14:28

somebody please tell me where i get this clary sage stuff?

i'm thinking that's the way to go.

  1. I was watching a horror movie with DH. At one particularly scary bit I jumped and my waters popped. Only trickled though, assume the rest went in the bath a few hours later

2)In bed in the middle of the night. Only another small trickle, the rest came out with DS (on to my mum's new shoes) about 15 hours later.

I didn't get the huge gush I was expecting, I think ebcause both DCs were back to back and well wedged in my pelvis. I did hang around Marks and Spencers rather a lot from 40 weeks onwards just in case Grin

Thumbwitch · 31/08/2011 14:45

Clary sage essential oil can be bought from a health food shop such as Holland and Barrett. They should have it in stock and it should be decent quality. You MUST dilute it before using it on skin though; preferable with a nice light oil like grapeseed.
Don't use it at night - it can induce excitable dreams, and I don't necessarily mean in a good way.

MrsRhettButler · 31/08/2011 14:50

thank you thumbwitch :)

legs akimbo in the labour room, with a knitting needle type afair and a very inexperienced Doctor....twas horrific.

Redumbdancy · 31/08/2011 15:47

Careful with the Clary sage, it gave me awful headaches. If you want to use it in the bath, I added it to a small saucer of milk and threw it all in that way.

  1. ARM.
  2. ARM
  3. Naturally in the birthing pool during transition.
notcitrus · 31/08/2011 15:47

Two days fore due date: Started labour at home at 4am, at 7am had a bath, 8am got out, dried myself, and kept drying, and drying, and drying... finally dawned on us that my waters had broken!

Couldn't remember what to do so MrNC called hospital who said they'd expect us when I felt like it sometime that day - though all the birthing pools were currently empty! So had breakfast and couple hours later there was a bit of blood so we went in to the MLU. Long tedious labour for the next 30 hours.

knittiekitty · 31/08/2011 16:55

Mine was very civilised and I'm hoping for something the same this time. I was shopping for a microwave in john lewis in kingston with mil at 37+5 and mil got quite excited when Sandy Toksvig walked past us. I waddled off to the loo and my waters broke just after I'd finished peeing (sorry if tmi) so it was all very tidy! No mess, which I'd been dreading and the jl staff were lovely. DD delivered about 8 hours later. I'm not sure which bit was contributing factor though, the microwave lives on and I suspect Sandy won't be there when I'm next due!

carocaro · 31/08/2011 17:12

With both DS's waters popped when I had got out of bed for yet another wee in the middle of the night, POP all over the bedroom carpet.

carocaro · 31/08/2011 17:14

KK - Sandi Toksvig, hilarious! I love JL Kingston, I remember sitting in the big airy cafe when pregnant with DS1 (9 years ago) and seeing all these Mums and Babies and being so happy it was gonna be me soon. Now live in Cheshire and took both DS's to John Lewis Cheadle for school stuff and lunch yesturday!
