so I can try and make mine break Grin Wink

Just wondered if there was a 'common' time or place...

Mine broke into a trickle after a sweep with dc1, I'm due my second on Saturday and wish they would break themselves this time, I want a big gush and then contractions... Tonight please :)

My waters didn't break at all. I gave birth to a baby in the sack. According to DH the midwife lightly touched the sack and it popped. I'd never heard of it until then.

hester · 30/08/2011 23:19

I remember it really well! Two days before my due date, my midwife examined me and said I was 'tight as a nut' and would clearly go late and probably need induction.

I woke up at 1am on my due date convulsed in a strong contraction, on all fours and howling to the moon. It felt VERY dramatic - I never had even one Braxton Hicks. I staggered to the bathroom and gushed.

Oh, I was so proud of myself - look at me, giving birth on my due date, I'll show that midwife etc. That was the last time I remember feeling clever or in control, six years and counting...

wotabouttheworkers · 30/08/2011 23:25

My waters broke while I was making fruitless attempts to pull up my trousers in the bedroom at home, where my daughter was born feet first less than half an hour later with two saintly paramedics in attendance and shortly before the flying squad arrived. When I reached hospital I was treated like the Queen of Sheba (yes, really) and students were brought round to look at us. 23 years ago now but seems like yesterday!

StealthPolarBear · 30/08/2011 23:27

With DS I was being sick in the sink
With DD I was pushing

DuelingFanjo · 30/08/2011 23:29

Mine were broken for me at 6cm dilated while in labour.

MrsRhettButler · 30/08/2011 23:32

SurprisEs, isn't that called being born 'on the caul?' iirc...

Hester and wotabouttheworkers, you both must be so proud! both sound very dramatic!

I went to the hospital as I thought they had broken. They hadnt. However, neither me, DH or my mum (all there) have any idea at what point they did break Grin
DS wasnt born with them still in tact though, so they must have broken at some point...?

FlamingoBingo · 30/08/2011 23:39

All four times my waters broke minutes before birth!

TinkerTailorSoldierLibrarian · 30/08/2011 23:42

Sitting on the sofa eating dinner, attempting to balance a plate on what used to be my lap. I dropped rice on the floor, tried to lean forwards to pick it up and felt a pop.

I'm currently hanging on for 24hrs too to avoid the youngest in year scenario. This baby can come from midnight tomorrow night. He'll probably come in another 3 weeks time however.

CocktailQueen · 30/08/2011 23:45
  1. Never broke at all until having planned CS - I assume they brokethem then ;-)

johnworf · 30/08/2011 23:51

On my last (4th) child, my waters broke whilst I was lying in my holiday caravan bed. I was 24 weeks pregnant so it was rather a shock/surprise.

She was also born in with her membranes intact.

  1. Broke by mw while in labour.
  2. As above.
  3. Just sitting down to watch xFactor, was buttering the rolls for the finger food we laid on. Felt a pop, started trickling, contractions started very soon after. That was 4 years ago this Friday

Sorry but xFactor isn't on until Saturday...

Hope all goes well! Smile

MrsRhettButler · 30/08/2011 23:55

Where do I find this clary sage stuff then?

Good luck tinker :) hope you don't go too far over, I'm certain I will, I'm not lucky enough for her to come early even if it is only 4 days left now!

MIne broke down the loo in the hospital after about my 5th loo-trip in a couple of hours. Contractions at that point were very like baaaad period cramps, and I had always found the sensation similar to IBS cramps and sitting on the loo trying to poo helped the cramps, so I kept going back. Big whoosh & whump in the loo, lots of blood - went back to the ward and said I thought my waters had gone - MW checked and "couldn't tell". I asked her if the membrane was bulging, she said no - so I said, well it had been earlier so I guess they've gone then, no? (She was the only MW I had who was a bit poor, not just because of that)

I felt a little robbed, really! But not too much - at least I didn't have anything to clean up. :)

MrsRhettButler · 31/08/2011 00:09

X post! 1lb 8oz is not wonderful, well it is that she is fine now :)

1st broke in theatre having c-sec
2nd (twins) sat up in bed at 5am, felt a pop and gush -was33 weeks so surprised!!
3rd(twins) just got back from my pre op check at 36 weeks, sat on the bed and they gushed everywhere so straight back to hospital again.

Thumbwitch · 31/08/2011 00:37

harrygrace - you had twins twice? Shock

AlmightyCitrus · 31/08/2011 01:26

1st, sat on the sofa. Thought I'd wet myself Blush (6 weeks early so totally unexpected.
2nd, 4am in bed. Woke up thinking I'd been stabbed.
3rd, Had them broke for me by the doctor in a labour room.
4th, Again in hospital, but due to a medical condition I got to press the super dooper emergency button which got me lots of attention. Luckily it was my hind waters which went first. The rest went while giving birth. I was polyhydramnios. It was like a tsunami. Grin

Marabou · 31/08/2011 02:17

@ 2.30am with a trickle then a gush. I was in week 38+5 and DS was finally born at 2.32pm in week 39+0. That was some 17 weeks ago:)...
