Stiches - ways of healing?

Does anyone have any tips to help with stitches after childbirth.

I had awful stiches with dd and it's my main fear about giving birth in about a weeks time. Does anyone have any natural or herbal rememdies that might help if I do need stiches.

I've already started taking Arnica and have brought some lavender oil for the bath.

I've heard you can freeze sanitry towels with stuff on them - any ideas or advice.
Cheers

I was given a feme pad from the hospital. You can buy them from anywhere now I think but it's just a gel filled pad which you put in the freezer and then if your using those maternity pants, the pad can be slipped in where the normal sanitary pad goes IYSWIM.

Back in the olden days when I had my first we put salt in the bath.
just because you had stitches first time doesnt mean you will next time so donr worry!

Run A bath, pour a pile of cooking salt in the bottom (takes a while to dissolve) and sit on it for 15 minutes every day.

This really is a miricle cure, works wonders and works fast, and it will not sting as long as it is cooking salt not table salt.

My only advice is to wear loose knickers!! I decided to wear a pair of normal fitting knickers and walked to my mums around the corner......god I was crippled!!! the pain was almost unbearable. So it was back to the disposables for me!!

I too had salt baths (didnt sting) and used lavender oil drops in warm water to pour over the area after using the toilet. Also tea trea oil in the bath was good - very small amounts though.

I took arinca tablets and tea tree oil baths

I found it really helped to keep the stitches dry as much as possible. After showering and toileting/rinsing with salty water I would use my blow drier to "dry" the area really well. I figured this was as close to the "let them breathe" advice from midwives I could get. I had stitches with all three births and healed without problems following this method.

Calendula tincture - about 20 drops in a jug of water. Bathe the area after your lavender bath. I also took a cocktail of high potency homeopathic remedies - arnica, calendula, hypericum and (iirc) belladonna.

i used lavender oil in my bath a couple of times a day midwife said helps healing and brings down swelling found it worked for me
