(History - previous EMCS to deliver stillborn and live twins at 32 weeks, treated for PTSD)

I've been in early labour for 2 days. HAd a show, but no waters broken. Been to hospital twice, only 1cm dilated last night. Contractions now much less strong, and about 10 mins apart (last night were strong and 3 mins but stopped). I have said that I would consider a VBAC but am shattered and very upset.
Not seen a doctor since yesterday morning, not sure what to do now. If it doesn't happen tonight I want my C section - I can't handle any more. How do I go about asking for this? Who do I contact? So tired, confused and upset, please help.

AYC - how long does early labor go on for normally? Could it be like this for days?

Ugh labour

length of string loopy. could be minutes could be days.

someone said very sensibly further up that the whole exhaustion, fear, stress thing is no way condusive to labour. but it's very hard and nobody can decide what you should do except you. and you are in no way a nuisance to anyone.

LoopyLoopsBettyBoops · 08/06/2011 22:32

Thanks :)

So, is my plan OK? No wait and see if anything happens tonight, but insist on speaking to my consultant about a CS tomorrow?

LoopyLoopsBettyBoops · 08/06/2011 22:32

sorry, to wait

AtYourCervix · 08/06/2011 22:34

sounds like a sensible good plan. now try and get some sleep

boy or girl?

LoopyLoopsBettyBoops · 08/06/2011 22:44

girl :)

sleep? I've slept most of the day!

Are they likely to give me a CS tomorrow do you think?

OP posts:
AtYourCervix · 08/06/2011 22:47

no idea. sorry. would depend on the 'urgency' i suppose. cry - it might help.

but still very very exciting.

LoopyLoopsBettyBoops · 08/06/2011 22:52

Thanks :)

If it helps Loopy and I know all hospitals are different but when I was in early labour with my second and planning for VBAC (I had a 2 day early labour like you, contractions every 10 minutes all through that time, I so feel your pain!), the doctor who saw me when I first went in (in early labour) said I could change my mind at any time and go for an ELCS. They did want to keep checking me because I had a prior CS and had been contracting for 2 days, they were worried about strain on the scar.

I think your plan is sensible, if your contractions show a pattern of getting stronger and closer together I would go in tonight and cry at them - but I wouldn't leave it as far as 3 minutes apart (I am afraid I was the worst case VBAC scenario, had complete rupture having got 10cm dilated but fortunately was in great hospital with surgeon and anaesthetist there ready, decision to incision 12 minutes) - in other words just if you KNOW it's ramping up, go in so you have the best chance of getting an ELCS if that is what you want. Otherwise yes, go in tomorrow and get it sorted. I really hope you meet your baby soon, good luck!

PS Don't mean to scare you with my story, me and DD were OK.

LoopyLoopsBettyBoops · 08/06/2011 23:16

Thank you Zoonose.

I'm going to try and get some sleep once I've had this cup of tea, and take it from there. I couldn't sleep through the contractions last night (or the night before) though, so not sure how that will affect things.

Really had enough now.

Big sympathy from me - I had no sleep for a few nights either, just hoped that the rest helped. Either way, it won't be long now - but I totally remember the feeling of having had enough. Very good luck and I hope it goes to plan for you.

faverolles · 09/06/2011 07:42

Hope you're ok this morning :)
Good luck with whatever today brings!

breadandhoney · 09/06/2011 09:58

Thinking about you today Loopy. Hope you'll be back soon with some good news :)

midori1999 · 09/06/2011 10:17

So sorry you are feeling like this and going through this Loopy. Sad

I am 36+2 today and have an indea how you feel because the closer I get to the end the more worried I get and I am torn between just wanting baby out now and wanting her to 'cook' for longer. I think if I was in early labour for a porlonged period, I too would just want baby out ASAP.

I hope you get to see/speak to the consultant this morning. Good luck!

schmee · 09/06/2011 10:30

Good luck for today Loopy - let us know how it goes.

AtYourCervix · 09/06/2011 10:57

How's things Loopy? Hoping you've had a lovely pink squishy baby by now Grin

LoopyLoopsBettyBoops · 11/06/2011 20:15

OK, update...

Went in on Thurs at 6 am and insisted on seeing a dr.

She examined me and discovered that I wasn't in full labour but was bleeding, so I had CS at 12pm (without having to demand it!)

DD born 6lb 15 (so nowhere near he expected low birth weight!)

All fine and dandy with us both, home today.

Typing one handed as feeding, sorry and THANK YOU ALL XXX
