Mine started coming out when ds was around 12 weeks and 6 weeks later I'm still losing loads! I'm not worried about the amount as I lost nothing my entire pregnancy but it is getting really annoying. There is hair EVERYWHERE Shock.

Ummm it was about six months for me, sorry!

doricpatter · 12/03/2011 08:43

DD is 6 months old and I still get clumps sometimes, sorry!

MinnieBar · 12/03/2011 09:00

10 mths here and it has stopped but I can't remember exactly when, sorry!
Although now I have regrowth instead so have a lovely tufty fringe that sticks out horizontally. Lovely.

Marrow · 12/03/2011 09:07

I don't remember with DD but DS is 14 weeks old and it is coming out in clumps. I carried on losing it throughout my pregnancy and I now actually have a couple of bald patches Sad Really hoping it stops soon because I am getting quite worried about it.

plasticspoon · 12/03/2011 09:30

Erk, it could go on for a few more months?! I may well be bald by then... Keep finding hairs in ds' nappy Confused

Rather humorously his hair has started to fall out too - just on top, with a nice mullet look developing round the back. We are going to make an awesome pair.

With DS it started at 4 months, lasted until 8/9 months. I've always had really thick hair, which got even thicker during pregnancy, but more than the pregnancy hair fell out and it stopped just as I started to feel really thin on top. It took a good few months for it to start to thicken up again and DS was probably 18mo before I felt like it was pre-pregnancy normal again. DD is 5mo - started at 3 months and it is still going... Sigh.

FWIW, I think I suffer more than most of my friends did so I may not be typical, plus at no point was I ever really 'bald' - the worst was the few months where I felt very thin on top but I doubt it was noticeable to anybody except me and DH, and he probably only noticed because I whined about it so much!

mmmmmchocolate · 12/03/2011 09:43

Mine stopped at about 5-6 months both times. I used to have to tie my hair up day and night as it was getting everywhere!

Both of my DD's went bald on top in the weeks after birth. It must be something to do with the hormones. We used to call DD1 'sven' Grin They've both got gorgeous hair now Smile I've got weird tufty bits in my parting Hmm

argylesocks · 12/03/2011 10:04

ummm, i was unaware of this side effect. does it happen to everyone? my hair didn't get any thicker (at least it hasn't yet) so will it still fall out? jesus, i didn't know i had that to look forward to! how bad does it get?

Metalhead · 12/03/2011 10:58

I think for me it lasted about 2-3 months. My hair had got thicker during pregnancy and is now (9 months after birth) pretty much back to how it was before. Though I too have that lovely sticky-up fringe thing going from where the hair is growing back!

plasticspoon · 12/03/2011 12:22

Argyle, yup, the list of charming side effects of having a baby goes on and on... :o

Im so glad I found this thread- I gave birth 9 months ago and had thought all the hair loss had finished months ago... then, literally overnight, I noticed two big gaps in my hair on the corner of my hairline replaced with two big tufts of hair ("like horns"... DH helpfully pointed out Hmm)

I thought I might have burnt it with my hairdryer but I think I would have noticed!

Do you think this sounds like normal hair loss after pregnancy- I didnt get it with DS1 but this time it was coming out in handfuls!

(goes off to look for a wig/ paper bag)

MindySimmons · 22/03/2011 16:09

Mine didn't start falling out until about 4-5 months after the birth of my dd and carried on for months after that so don't fret

Bumperlicioso · 22/03/2011 16:11

Mine was almost constant since birth up to to 5 months. Seems to have stopped in anger now.

Dontbugmemalone · 22/03/2011 16:24

I already had thick hair before I got pregnant so I didn't notice much difference in my hair during pregnancy. However my hair did fall out in clumps for about 15 months and I also grew an extra tuft/fringe on the corner of my hairline Hmm
I don't think I had any patches though despite losing a lot of hair.

Sorry that doesn't help at all :)

NeverGoogleZombieJuice · 22/03/2011 16:28

I have big bald triangles by my temples! I am actually receding...This upsets me.

nunnie · 22/03/2011 16:31

Mine is just starting to settle and ds is almost 6 months.

Lainey1981 · 22/03/2011 16:54

I was wondering this too as hair loss started 4 weeks ago for me ( when ds was 12 weeks) and is falling out comstantly. V deprrssing as have v fine hair. Really hope it stops soon, can't bare the thought of goingald. Am thinning by temples Shock

PrincessScrumpy · 22/03/2011 22:28

I didn't lose any until 8 months (when I stopped bf). Then it went on for about 3-4 months. DH hoovers and it drove him mad.

Woodlands · 23/03/2011 15:04

still going strong at 8 months. this thread gives me hope it might stop soon!

mrsravelstein · 23/03/2011 15:06
