Fio2 · 03/10/2005 14:54

were you traumatised by it?
i know i would have been v emotional

expatinscotland · 03/10/2005 14:58

OMG, starshaker! Will speak w/midwife about homebirth this weekend!

colditz · 03/10/2005 15:00

Everyone asked me if my mum was going to help me to look after my baby, including the midwives. When I said "No, my partner" I could smell the shock eminating from the snobbish cauliflower-heads-to-be. I was 22, but am short and had my hair in pigtails for convenience.

It gave me a huge chip on my shoulder that still persists to this day.

starshaker · 03/10/2005 15:01

yeah we all asked if she could be moved and thats when police came in. couldnt wait to get home felt if some1 could openly shoot up in smoking room what else could they get away with. felt so sorry for the baby but in a weird way it was prob for the best (sounds really bad). imagine what else she could have done. and why did no1 do anything she was obviously an addict but she still got to have her baby with her.

Lizzylou · 03/10/2005 15:02

Starshaker that is truly awful

Cam · 03/10/2005 15:03

Not sure anyone could have predicted that she'd inject the baby starshaker - that's one fo the most things I've ever heard, why not give it up for adoption if she didn't want it

Fio2 · 03/10/2005 15:07

did they know she was an addict?

sorry to keep asking questions, just sounds henious

vickitrickortreatmum · 03/10/2005 15:08

Babies go through withdrawal when they are born to heroine addicts dont they?

What a dreadful dreadful thing.

suzywong · 03/10/2005 15:09

where did she get the heroine from in hospital or am I being naiive?

ON the ward i was in there were women from Holloway prison with accompanying (male) guards

very sad indeed

starshaker · 03/10/2005 15:09

the midwife said it was in her notes but they didnt think she would do it in the hosp

starshaker · 03/10/2005 15:10

her partner had just been in gave her a bag then left

suzywong · 03/10/2005 15:11

she injected the baby???? am I understanding this correctly?

devilishboozo · 03/10/2005 15:11

Starshaker, what an awful story poor little mite.

When I was in hospital after having an emergency CS, there was a woman opposite me who was on about her 9th baby and insisted in telling everyone in a loud voice, and the worst Bath accent you could imagine, about every minutiae of her birth. I wanted to smack her one. She went on like she was the only woman in the world to have evr had a baby.

And she smoked out of the window in the night when the midwives weren't around as often

starshaker · 03/10/2005 15:14

yeah injected him cos he was crying

devilishboozo · 03/10/2005 15:15

OMG, I can't believe some people. I can't get over the fact she injected her baby! What hospital was this?

starshaker · 03/10/2005 15:19

it was irvine central in scotland

devilishboozo · 03/10/2005 15:21

I'm in shock over that. What a terrible story. I have another hospital story to tell ylu. but I don't want to trivialise your story starshaker

suzywong · 03/10/2005 15:23

first time the woman next to me was a chainsmoker and not the sharpest tool in the box (coincidence?) and she kept asking me how come my baby was so big and hers was so small.

starshaker · 03/10/2005 15:24

go on think my post has put a downer on this thread. need some1 to brng it back up

devilishboozo · 03/10/2005 15:27

I broke my arm whil dancing (pissed) in a bar in Birmingham. While being seen to in the casulaty dept of Selly oak hospital, the guy in the next cubicle was arguing with the doctor

"Docta, I wanne be admittid" (with accent)

"Well, sir, I think you are well enough to go home. Just out of interest, why do you think you need to be admitted"

"Because I am prat, doc"

I was desperate to hear what happened after that.

I never did find out though

devilishboozo · 03/10/2005 15:28

My mum also used to be an infection control nurse at City Hospital in Brum, and she told me once about this bloke who turnmed up in casulaty asking if he could bum a lift off an ambulance, as his shoppuing was heavy, and he couldnt afford a taxi!

devilishboozo · 03/10/2005 15:29

Oops, have developed fish fingers!!!

fuzzywuzzy · 03/10/2005 15:39

Mine is really tame compared ot others.
However with dd2, I was put in a bay, where the woman two beds down kept describing to everyone and anyone who passed in a very loud voice, in excruciatingly graphic detail, her birth experience, the tale always began with 'Look at that head big innit?? He weighed 9lb's and I pushed him out all myself no pain killers no nothing...'
Then she insisted on telling everyone, how they had thought she was expecting a girl, and now they'd have to find cash to buy boys clothes as they only had girls clothes ...!!!!
The family was nice enough, but I could've done without the dad peering in through my curtains everytime he walked past, as I only drew the curtains when b/f.....
