Childbirth

tightenings over top of bump

I am 40+2 with no.2 but dd1 was elcs for late diagnosed breech so I have no idea about labour pains or anything! I keep getting tightening/stretching type pains accross the top of my bump - really quite painfully and frequently. I am also getting lots of lower 'period' pains (presumably Braxtons as they have been going on for much longer?)

So at the risk of another 'is this labour' thread, does anyone have any ideas? Is it just baby getting bigger and hitting my ribs - still seems quite high and not engaged as far as I can tell - or is it Something Else?

relax and enjoy :O

~waves pompoms and blows over some hypno labour dust~

buffy, some people never do get regular contractions until the second stage, maybe this is just how you labour. ~hugs~

buffy every ten mins is fine at 45 secs,

glad bath has not stopped them, seems this might be it then, how exciting. :)

Try not to think about it being "pain" as such, if you have been practicing hypno, you will already know that anyway, Think more about waves, tightenings and breathing

Often mw's are confused by hypno mums as they tend to appear calmer, and if you have suffered with periods in the past then you will be used to dealing with discomfort and getting on with it.

hope you are relaxing with dh . x

Calm? Hahaha... it just seems that way...

Well everything went fairly quiet overnight, some more painful cx but don't think there was anything regular. HOWEVER powercut meant that it was tricky to do timings and couldn't post until now - we've just been restored (finally). Honestly, 1 cm of snow and it all goes to pot...

Back to the wait and see game!

read back over this thread from yesterday and everything still applies, calm, relax, warm bath

feel good hormones once dd is in bed, snuggle up with dh and smooch (kissy kissy) :)

nipple stim may help to make ctx stronger and closer together

good luck, hope this keeps going for you, just bear in mind it has to keep going at some point soon.

buffy you're not doing anything wrtond, please don't get trapped into a negative frame of mind.

Remember your body has not done this before and all these ctx are doing someting, they are working hard at shortening and softening your cetvix so that when the hard work starts it's ready to dilate nicely.

Also remember that baby has to get into a good position onto the cervix for you, no point dilating unevenly with a malpositioned baby.

Try some crab walking up and down the stairs, to open up the pelvis ie

sideways, one foot on first step, then next foot on same step as a child would, only take one step at a time, don't overstretch. (does that make sense)Come down same way, sideways, one foot at time on each step

Don't overdo it, you will need your energy for some point later.

Maybe get out into fresh air for half an hour today, make sure you are accompanied, and don't go where it's slippery, frsh snow is ok, less icy.

Relax, try and get back into your positive head space, do you ahve any homeeopathic calming remedy you could take, or go over your hypno stuff.

Don't worry, it'll make yu tense, tense is not good for ctx and we don't want adrenalin.

You are doing fab. xx

Hey Buffs have been out all day on horrid journeys (not loving the snow so much right now!) so very grateful you've been so kindly waiting so I don't miss all the action! Keep calm and carry on crabbing up those stairs! Grin

Hey ladies,

not sure whether anyone will be up at this silly time...

Some more yesterday, then woke up at 1 (and onwards...) contracting. Have been awake since 4.30 with regular squeezes moving into my back, are now roughly 5 minutes apart. Feels much harder and am also getting sort of 'cervical' pains (although where I think my cervix is may not be where it actually IS iyswim!)

fx this is ACTUALLY it...
