our pekins live with our big hybrids and are definately at the top of the pecking order! have heard varying reports from friends with a mix of large/small birds...

i would say manage the intro's carefully and see how it goes

I'm going to do it in a few weeks . Have a 14w old Orp, a 10w Buff Sussex and a 7w New Red Hamp ... the Pekins are coming from the same breeder and should be 3w now. Her advice is to put the little ones in at night. I know lots of people separate them and do a slow introduction but I've only got one hen-house so I'm praying I'm not making a big mistake. I've only had my girls a week so they'll be here about 5w when the Pekins come - hpefully they'll be young enough to be more accepting. I shall live in hope. Keep us posted on what you decide to do.

we have a bantam ancona, v attractive, but right at the top of the pecking order and bullies the others (some quite big, but not as big as an orpington). There's just no telling how things will work out!

Hmm I really can't decide what to do. Have my eglu Cube arriving on Friday and have been to see the hens at the farm next door. they have Pekin Bantams, Cochin Bantams (not quite sure whether these are different from the pekins since some websites seem to suggest they are one and the same), Light Sussex Bantams and Orpingtons. I know I could look elsewhere but the convenience factor is a big deal! I'm thinking a couple of the light sussex, a couple of pekins and a couple of orpingtons (for the normal sized eggs really). We will only have the one henhouse though and so I don't want it to be a complete disaster!!
