I just wondered! They are such fun to name. Have seen some brill names on here already.

My PILs hens were Adeen, Dva, Tree, Chitiri, Pyat and Shiest. Russian for 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6...

The foxes got two, and some kind of mite got another, and now they can't remember if they have 1 and 4, or 2 and 3, or what. They got two new ones, which are called Lady Jane and Grey. And the others are possibly Dva and Chitiri. Or maybe Pyat and Adeen...

ConDemNation · 11/05/2010 07:07

Oh wow - yes I recognised the russian numbers! That's really clever.

Shame some were got, though.
I didn't realise red mite could kill!

largeginandtonic · 11/05/2010 07:13

Mine were Penny and Pru, Henrietta, Maggie and Gertrude.

Maggie was swiped by a fox

ConDemNation · 11/05/2010 07:18

Oh lovely names though.

we have a Margret (Gretchen)
Lilith
Persephone
and Melisande, or Missy

so named for her rose comb, and Melisande in the myth lost her golden crown in a pool, and wasn't too bothered

ditavonteesed · 11/05/2010 07:19

we currently have
sweetie (dd2's)
twinkle (dd1's)
Gertie
Flo
Dotty
Fizz
Spider (a black silkie really suits her)
and Pumpkin.

Have lost
Stripey
Daphne
and Margo.

meltedmarsbars · 11/05/2010 13:30

Speckle, Moonlight, Barley, Pepper, and two brown ones that I don't know the names of - they are all technically dd1's hens.

Barley has 5 little yellow pom-pom chicks that might not have names yet

sylvev · 11/05/2010 23:19

Ours are:
Layla
Pearl
The Stig
Tango (sadly died a few weeks ago)

hellymelly · 11/05/2010 23:31

ours are Dotty (she is indeed dotty, her plumage not her brain as she is rather clever) and forget-me-not who is partly slatey blue. The DDs (at 2 and 4) named them as they are their chickens.

bronze · 11/05/2010 23:37

At the moment we have
Ellen
Edith
Gwendoline
Maggie
Janie
Florence
Nell
Elsie
Violet

Mostly named after ancestors a couple named after other people in my life.

My first three were
Peggy (grandmother)
Betty (other Grandmother)
Judy (in honour of mil)

because it was money from these three people that set me up. So the naming trend started

BitterAndTwistedChoreDodger · 11/05/2010 23:43

I don't have any chickens, but you lot have proven my theory that chickens really suit sweet old lady names [smiles]

Saggyoldclothcatpuss · 12/05/2010 00:19

We used to have Bunty and Gerald. Our first Cockerel was called Sirius (he was black) and his wives were Hermione and Lavender (she was Lavender)
After a nasty virus, total wipeout by ferret, a freak drowning, an incubator malfunction killing 16 newly hatched chicks, and a rat attack, we dont name them anymore!

LilyBolero · 12/05/2010 00:28

We have;

Ginger
Honey
Speckeldy Selina
Smokey
Snowdrop
Dopey

IMoveTheStars · 12/05/2010 00:45

Lister, Gollum, Tracey, Daisy, Toff, Badger and Puffy.

florencerusty · 12/05/2010 10:59

Aud, Maud and Mabel

MitchyInge · 12/05/2010 11:05

We have Betty and Tatty, RIP Moxie (my favourite)

KittyTwoShoes · 12/05/2010 11:14

We have Boil, Poacher and Scramble And the cockerel is called Soldier. Is that awful?

We're more duck people than chickens, really, because we have water and find them less hassle to look after - they're more or less wild, live on their little duck island where foxes can't really get to them, and they can fly. Plus they make their own nests. Don't need us at all! They're called Jemima, Donald, Moira and Frederick. And at the moment there are some ducklings named Pierre, Daisy, Ginger and Lucky.

dilbertina · 12/05/2010 11:19

We had to give ours away when we moved abroad, but they were (and hopefully are!):

Hilda, Mrs Moo and Bucket.

atomicsnowflake · 12/05/2010 22:14

I have Wendy who is an adult blue cochin, Penny who is a POL light sussex and Chantelle who is a lace orpington pullet.

isthatporridgeinyourzone · 12/05/2010 22:17

I don't name mine, but a friend has called hers Jalfrezi, Korma and Tikka.

Shallishanti · 12/05/2010 22:22

We have just got 2 new ones- one black araucana that we decided looked like Dot Cotton off eastenders, so her friend got called Ethel.
Others are - Betty, Fenimore (B.Buttercrunch, was in a story book ths dcs loved) Thing One (from the cat in the hat, thing 2 sadly deceased) Nellie, and Domino (to be renamed as doesn't suit her.

ConDemNation · 13/05/2010 07:12

Brilliant names. Thankyou for sharing,

however i have now discovered a huge envy of those with ducks.

this could be a problem as we have no pond. Can you keep a duck in a water butt?

OP posts:
sethstarkaddersmum · 13/05/2010 10:06

Mine are Happy Mrs Chicken, Mrs Stones and Indiana (the last two being named by dd after a dinner lady and schoolfriend respectively).

meltedmarsbars · 13/05/2010 10:08

ConDemNation - ducks are VERY messy! They puddle everything.

ConDemNation · 14/05/2010 10:49

maybe not ducks then.

SethStarkaddersmum, I have to say my vote for best names lies squarely with yours.
