Is it feeling bit hen-pecked?

(sorry, couldn't resist that)

bumblefoot or scaly leg

isthatporridgeinyourzone · 03/05/2010 20:41

Scaly leg is caused by the mites burrowing under the scales on the bird's leg - there will be an obvious accumulation of dead scales. Treatable by soaking leg in surgical spirit and smearing with vaseline.

My money would be on bumblefoot.

Also going to say bumblefoot.

took her to the vet last weekend after a course of antibiotics for another chicken had not done anything. Vet said it was artitis in the joint, wouldn't get better, chicken was obviously not doing well, so she put her down. Now another chicken has died this morning (the one the antibiotics were for originally) so we have half the chickens we used to. What do I do with a dead chicken?

You can bury them in the garden, send them to the pet cremation people or just bag them up and place into the bin which always seems a bit unpleasant to me.

We have two chickens buried in our garden at the moment.

If you bury them, make it deep, mine was dug up by a fox! I prefer a civic burial myself.
