Could I get fertilised eggs and keep them on the aga to hatch?

Or do I really need a special incubator?

It would be great for the Dcs to see this process.
(Have kept hens before by the way)

Hey dogchew, do you have experience with hens yourself or are you just pulling my leg?

I wouldn't try the aga method - the eggs need humidity and quite a specific temperature which the aga definitely wouldn't provide.

And, it's not the best time of year to try hatching - the chicks need a lot of heat for their first week or two and at this time of year it'd be hard for them to survive. It would perhaps be better to get a couple of POL chooks and plan to hatch some eggs in early spring next year.

The hatching process is huge fun but it can lead to many cockerels and no hens .....

forgot about the humidity. Of course

Maybe get a broody in the spring time then.

thanks.

V welcome!

We've got a couple of new columbian blacktails today to add to our flock. I'm bursting to introduce them to the others, but for now they're cosy in a small coop by themselves.

Chicken keeping has become a bit addictive for me.
