It's day 21 of eggs in the incubator.....

And no sign of anything going on. I stopped turning Thursday night, and there were definite heartbeats and movements in a few of the eggs.

Should the eggs be moving about?
Can I open the incubator and have a closer look?

They may be moving and you may hear cheaping. How lovely for them to be due on Easter day

odearyme · 12/04/2009 10:16

They are really still. I've been watching through the little window for ages. Can I open the incubator to listen?

You could do but try to keep the humidity up

odearyme · 12/04/2009 21:07

Still nothing, I'm going crazy waiting!

It can take 10 hours or longer for them to hatch, but turning them is ok

pinkmagic1 · 12/04/2009 21:34

Try not to touch! I had given up hope and was going to chuck my eggs away but my son begged me not to. On day 25, we woke up to a hatching egg!

Day 25!!, I'm going to have to find something to distract myself with. I had a really quick check earlier, and tapped the eggs, and tried to imitate a chicken, but haven't disturbed them since.
Maybe tonights the night...

OMG one beak chipping through an egg!!! Day 24, I'm going no where today, just going to watch. So glad I didnt' give up

perhaps the temperature wasn't quite high enough if they have gone 3 days over?

I'm pleased you didn't give up.

Mine are due for candling later this week

odearyme · 15/04/2009 15:00

I think it was a combination of not having a clue what I was doing, didn't put any water in the first week, so maybe they didn't "get going" till later. I also probably open the incubator too much to candle.
Next time I am leaving well alone, and am going to make sure the temp/humidity is spot on before I even start.

How did it go?

I use hens for chicks and with hens if chicks go more than 2 days over they are too weak and nothing can save them. Were yours ok?

What brand/make incubator do you have?
