I sold 2 Buff Sussex and got £60 for them!

I wasn't planning on buying anything but got a bit carried away and came back with a Silkie X broody hen and 5 little French Maran chicks. Just hoping they're not all boys.

I think we probably went to the same sale...was it at Melton Mowbray by any chance...? I couldn't believe the price the birds were going for....! For a first timer I think we probably over spent!!!!!!!! We got 5 pekins but they are lovely and settling in well. One is laying but the other 5 are still a little nervous.

I was at Hatherleigh last week and a trio of buff Orpingtons went for no money (imho) I got 6 Welsummer He for £2 and was offered the other 6 for free as just no interest.

Well done you.

Yes, it was Melton.

It does have a reputation for quality birds and therefore high prices. Not sure I'd buy from there unless I was breeding/selling.

Looks like 3 of my chicks are girls and 2 are boys so I'm happy with that.

Those Welsumners were fantasticly cheap! Do you mean £20? Even that would be cheap.

I bought 2 (very expensive) chickens from a farm today

They cost £30

I was a bit in shock - one is malaysian or something and the other is a silkie....maybe?

Sorry, should have been clearer HE (hatching eggs) not hens with some letters missing! Were £1.95 per egg at a traditional poultry centre.

The Orpintons went for around £10 per head at Trad breeds place they are £39.50 for POL.

Not sure Hatherleigh have the same high standards as Melton
