egg eating-how to stop it?

My very nice neighbour has two new chickens,but they keep eating their own eggs.He has had chickens for ages but never had this before and so isn't sure how to deal with it-I said I would post on mumsnet as someone would know-he was very pleased! so any advice welcome.

Put golf balls in the nest boxes, or fill an egg with mustard!!

Hmmm-pondering how on earth you fill an egg with mustard...? Will relay the info,ta.

And I thought birds didn't notice chilli as an anti squirrel thing is meant to be chilli in with the bird seed,but from the above I guess that they do.How do you get the chilli/mustard in? do you make a little hole in the egg?

Yes - make a small hole in one end (like you were going to do egg blowing) use a needle to break up the yolk, then tip mustard/chilli powder in and mix. Then tape the end up
