I just shut them up last night and didn't check they were in there first (as I almost always do because one is always escaping). Went down this morning to let them out and there they were in the run just looking at me!!!
They have got a small fully enclosed run on the house which opens up to a larger fenced in area, they have full access to the larger area - the enclosed run is there as it forms part of the boundary. Anyway the door on the enclosed run had become closed (not totally - they got out of it yesterday morning so I assumed it was fine) so they hadn't gone back in.
What a night to be out in the cold on!
One of them was straight into the house when I opened it to lay.

Obviously they realized they'd be daft to run away.

well, both laying, so didn't suffer to obadly from being out all night in freezing weather!

Chickens are hard as nails aren't they!?! Glad they are OK.

I foolishly left the door of my henhouse locked a couple of weeks ago as I'd been cleaning it out and if I don't shut the door the girls all try and get in and have a look. They were madly tapping at the kitchen door as the sun went down and I was giving DD her tea, I went out a bit later to check they had gone in, found the door locked, ran back down to the kitchen door and found one roosting in the top of the bay tree we have in a pot (about 3 feet tall!). No sign of the other two...DH had to forage round the garden with the lamp he uses for hunting and found them hunkered down behind the garage. So they all made it safely home in the end. Apparently they are pretty hardy though, their body temp is a lot higher than humans.
