Hi all. We're getting our chickens on Sunday. We live ona small holding so space isn't an issue. Our neighbour is selling up so we're buying her 2 fairly new coops which have 4 laying boxes each. She's giving us her 10 hens. she's said she'll help me but expect lots of inane questions next week

That sounds like a suitable number of hens for a smallholding. You'll have enough eggs for you and some to sell or barter (I swap eggs with my fruit-growing or fishing neighbours). Are these your first livestock?

We've had sheep but they weren't actually ours.

I was bought up on a small holding and have had pigs, cows and hroses
